What class does the coupe participate in? What other cars do you race against? What can you modify and remain in the same class (pulley, chip, suspension, intecooler...)? How much wear and tear does it take on the old coupe? Will I need a set of tires everytime I race?

The way it was explained to me is that there will be no classes at this event since only "beginners" are expected to attend. They will not be timing any runs. The first day is instruction in braking, cornering etc... The second day puts it all together on a track but still no timing. The main purpose of this event is to introduce newcomers to autocrossing.
I don't expect much wear on the car at an event like this. If you want more details, call the number listed in the application (Gayle Jardine @ 909.261.1232).
It would be nice to see some MBworld members participate.

Out Of Control!!
Autocrossing is very hard on tires, brakes, and your skin. Bring sunblock, or be a real man like me and burn your skin off. Other than that, it really doesn't test your car too much. Buell - people who do it every weekend go through 2-3 sets of soft rubber in a season, to give you a marker.
I don't know what Stock class the c230 falls into; I'd guess E, F, or G. If you do a pulley, it will probably automatically bump you up into Modified classes, which would kill any chance that you'd have - you'd be up against kit cars, turboed rx-7s, s/c'ed civics/crxes/miatas (the true beasts of autocross!), etc. Basically, a pulley upgrade is an engine mod, and boosts you into serious competition.
Go to scca.org for more info, though you have to buy the book to get the full class strata.
Try to bring your own helmet - the loaners tend to be nasty! And don't forget lunch/drinks; it gets hot on blacktop for 8 hours.
