My guess is your volume speed control is too sensitive. It's designed to increase volume as your speed increases and I bellieve it uses the increase in ambient/road noise to raise it.

Not sure if it's the same for the coupe, but I took out the speed sensitive mic that is mounted in the dome light area. Made a world of difference, since it was still prominent after the dealership turned off the speed-sensitive functionality.

I didn't know you did that. You damn "industry" peeps are so damn sensitive!

I actually like the volume sensing mic etc. My w202 didn't have a mic and you could tell when it would increase the volume if you went up say from 70-75 mph, I think there was something in the sound system where it went up by increments every so often you reached a higher speed.

Hahaha...So true dawg. I have to hear the even levels on music, so if I bring work home and I listen to stuff in the car, I couldn't have the volume levels going up and down...Made it too difficult to judge the quality of the music.

Blake P actually did a DIY on another forum. Just search for the thread subject: "Unplugging BOSE Audio Pilot mic". It's not on MBWorld, but it is on another forum.

Here are the steps, but if you want pics, you'll have to search for that one.

Courtesy of Blake P
1) Remove dome light cover: I used a butter knife and pried the cover loose starting from the top left side (closest to the driver's side), then pried open the rest using my fingers. I've heard of others using a flathead screwdriver to pry it open, but a butter knife seemed to work better for me.
(sorry, no pic of this step)

2) Remove entire dome area by sliding two clips behind the dome light. This will expose all wires that supply power to the dome and map lights.

3) Locate wires conecting to audio pilot mic in front right side. There are two wires, one brown and one white connecting to the small round mic.

4) Pull wires firmly to expose mic and connection that will need to be unplugged.

5) Separate mic from connection to prepare for unplugging.

6) Here's the moment of truth...Unplug the damn mic.

7) Now tuck the cord back benind the empty space and put the dome back on in reverse order.

8) Throw the stupid mic away and enjoy the steady volume of your BOSE sound system, no matter how fast you go or how much bass your system pumps out.

Now, if you don't have Bose, it may be as simple as going into the dealership and having them disable the speed sensitive volume.
