When you buy a house. Do you live in it bare. No furniture, no nothing. Or do you "mod" the place. Leather sofa, 42" plasma on the wall. King size bed. All that. Paint the walls, carpet, wood floor, tile. Whatever you do, your changing your home to better suit your personality, and make it more comfortable to live in.

You buy a car, any car, you like it stock, you keep it stock. If, thats what suits you. But some people, they like to personalize thier cars. So, they do. If you dont like them, dont do it to your car.

The things I want to do to my car when im done might be borderline rice. In wich case ill start taking things off till its a good mix of elegance and personality. I by no means want to kill a benz by ricing it out. Thats just me. That picture of the yellow "Mercedes E-clipse" That looked horrible. Plain out ugly, to me. But I can respect the fact that he put time and moeny and thought into his ride. Im sure he loves it.

Those three black cars looked nice, rims werent to my liking, but i liked the other things it had. I wont say the whole damn car ugly because of 19 spoke ricer racing rims. just soemthing i wouldnt do.
I see where you are trying to go with that, but I don't think that buying a house is similar to modding a car.

Saprissa, you know what's hilarious? All of you vets on this board who have been saying not to bash people for their ingenuity, individualism and art...then in the post linked below...

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=185049

...all I see are the very same types of people bashing the poster about the way his car has been customized.

Don't be so hypocritical and sensitive. Just because I'm new to the board doesn't mean I'm not allowed to have an opinion, which I've clearly stated.

And with that, I'm done with this thread. But from now on, when one of you guys says that you don't like this mod or that mod that someone has done to their car, I'm going to call you out on it.

Wow, and for the most part, this guy is right.

Almost all members that responded here criticizing him have responded in the thread he posted criticizing the riced out Benz.

So it seems the typical MB attitude still exists: its alright to mod your car, yet only in a suttle way that does not offend the snobby brand image, and lets pretend that snobby attitude doesn't exist, cause you know, we're better than that cause we drive MBs.

wow...thats suprisingly accurate.

I have a problem with anyone, even ricers doing some of the things they do to cars, so I see where hummel is coming from...but I must say, even the most heavily modified cars on here are really friggin cool because they are done right...rahstyles car is not verry modified...he just did (in my oppinion) stupid sstuff to that poor thing.

Luckily the brands that do carbon widebodys and stupid looking tailights and rediculously ostentatious bumpers dont usually make for MB. If they did...i fear some of us would destroy ourselves in a sea of ABS, Bondo, Vinyl graffics and Carbon fiber tanning beds on the trunk lids.

*loves the limited selection for MB tuning*

Taste is a wonderful thing...hopefully yours is he same as mine because everything else is a RUINED MERCEDES!! of course....right.... noone is entitled to think something looks good but me! right? right.....? oh, please, someone agree with me!!!

Maybe I misunderstood what the guy was saying since I wasn't offended by it. I took him to be a fellow Benz enthusiest wanting to help maintain the integrity of the marque by discouraging ppl from 'rahstyling' their cars.
With EVERY make of car I've owned, I've seen a few do things to their ride that are embarrasing even if I can appreciate the time, effort and $$ that went into it. (See the yellow Mercedes E-Clipse posted here earlier).
I don't intend to ever put as much money into my C230 as many of you have but that doesn't mean I don't like the mods, I just don't have that much to spend on mods.
When I want to see the best C-Class pics around, THIS is the place I go to. The pics below are 3 of the hottest C Class cars I've ever seen. I haven't seen anyone posting in this thread with a car that I would call 'riced out' so I can't understand why everyone seem so threatened or upset by this guy?

Sarcasm at its best !

the car I called out as a RICER !
Is indeed a RICER. Just call it like I see 'em !

There are two extremes on this board, and after 5+ years, people still don't get it. People are going to do with their cars what they do with their cars.
Who cares ? Is one post on a forum going to discourage or encourage someone to continue ? Maybe yes, maybe no. Just as one person loves their car stock, someone else loves their ricy mods. To each his own, and that's what makes this forum thrive. Individualism, ingenuity and art is one thing.... long live originality ! Making your Mercedes-Benz look like a Honda is completely something else. Snobbiness... maybe ! But for a marque that's been around since 1886, you gotta give respect and credit where it's due.

Hummell, it's too bad you're done with this thread.... oh well...
Rah-style will be back soon enough !

i mod because of what i think is 'clean and tasteful'. as being an artist in my daily job, i like making things to look as they should, but witha very different twist. the mods that i've chosen [cosmetically] are based on what I would like to do.

I love the lines fo the C class and the name that mercedes holds. in my own ventures, I'm taking the lines of the mercedes, and the class and elegance of the MB name and putting my own aggreesive twists to it.

I'll prolly get bashed for "why'd you do that?" or whatever [wow, it sounds like im totally destroying my car from a standpoint, but i know what im doing and why]. But I'm doing what I want to do, regardless of what anyone sys or thinks. I know I have class and taste. I know i'll get hazed for "now ad a c55 spoiler and change out the headlights to bi-x", but again, i know what im doing and im doing it to satisfy MY OWN tastes.

i admire apsects of franks car, drex's car, and flip's car, as well as aspects of a few others on the boards. but when it comes down to it, we mod cause its what WE like, not what others think.

One thing I've noticed about these particular boards is that when someone finally posts pics of their car its immediately "lower it, swap out to bi-x, wheels, tires, etc etc" or when someone is 'done' with their car and feeling appreciative of something they've seen as "completed" there is always a few posts of "change this" or "add this and your car is set".

Why do we mod? Cause we like it. We like being different then the standard.
