Another Audio 10 story
Well I decided to play with my AM Bands a bit more tonight and, well, as it turns out the SW band works!!! Wow. Tonight I was listening to VOA, BBC, and Radio Japan on the way home from the dealer after my A service.
Very cool!

Well, that is a good deal, it even comes with the box. My radio came in a box that looked like it went into a shredder. I was Glad it worked, and it was not damaged. I guess the German seller did not understand me when I asked to have the radio double boxed before shipping it (I used both languages so it would be not misconstrued).

Thanks Carl.
I ordered my radio. I also purchased my XM Radio goodies as so will have the new radio installed at the same time.
We sell a lot of stuff at Circuit City but nothing really that a REAL benz owner would want for his car...........now if you want a great TV or Computer.........come in and see ME!!!.
Carl.......how long did it take you to get your radio?
You can email me or just post it here....
Did you see my followup to the noise/rattle in the car. Remember you tried to help me fine it.
Any news yet on your dyno with the K/N?

Dan, it takes about 2-3 weeks with the German post office and it's about $30-35 for shipping depending on the weight of the box and stuff. Germans typically want you to do a wire transfer. The cheapest place is C2it.com. They'll wire transfer from your credit card to Germany for $15. B of A will do it for $45. It's best if he can take your credit card directly. International money orders are available at the post office but it won't save you money over the wire transfer if you pay for a money order plus priority mail. He seems to speak english as many Germans do but if you run into trouble try http://babelfish.altavista.com/ for translations. Good luck....
No dyno yet, didn't have time this weekend.

Well he gave me a negative review on my ebay acct. b/c it was taking too long! I also emailed him everyday of the status. Now I just have to pray that he send me the unit and in good condition

Sounds like a real jeark for a seller, I have have the best in dealing with buyers all over the world. Sorry to hear about that bad experiance however it should not be a negative to others that want to buy on E-bay. I have one rule of thumb that I go by and that is if the feedback has alot of negitatives I do not bid. You may have one problem now and again but not a whole bunch of negatives, that tells me that their not to be trusted.
I hope your Audio 10 is in good shape when it arrives.

Audio 10 CD
Thanks again Carl (Buellwinkle) for your help.
I received an email from Gemany this morning providing me with all the info I needed to wire the Euros to him. The TOTAL cost including shipping was 227 Euros.
Taking your advice I signed up with C2it.com. All together with Citibank charges et al the radio cost me $243.00. Not bad
Anyone out there have info regarding the power of this radio compared to the factory unit? Just curious.
Carl it seems like since I've met you it's just costing me $$$$. That said........where can I get those 10mm spacers for the rear wheels.........damn here I go again..

Dan, thanks for keeping the economy moving even if you are spending it in Germany. The spacers are available at www.autoclass.net - ask for Gaston. Make sure you get the correct bolts, I couldn't find them locally. Next you'll be asking about the lowering springs and window tinting.
As for the power rating on the radio, it's a lot less than the cassette radio but sounds better. Don't worry about power ratings, that's just marketing ploy to sell stereos at Circuit City.

Radio/Spacers
Howdy Carl
Always glad to keep the economy rolling along. Are you sure about the power rating being lower. I thought I read somewhere on the forum that it was somewhat higher. I agree with you about power ratings. Most folks are clueless when it comes to understanding them. The bottom line.......as you said......is that it sounds better.
Have NO fear I WILL NOT be checking on lowering springs, etc. Been that route with my GTI. Almost lost my wife on them. Said her butt hurt everytime she rode in it...
Found the site for the spacers. Thanks will be doing that shortly.
Still waiting to receive my Phillips Vison Plus. I did receive there 1 year warranty info by emai today and a confirmation of my order. I would think I should have them this week....Hey the days are getting shorter...

I'm starting to think that the reason the Audio 10 sounds better compared to the A30, in terms of bass response, is because it somehow feeds lower freqs. to the door speakers and not just the sub. This, of course, applies to those with Bose. Any thoughts on this?

Now I may be wrong however that is what I am reading in my owner's manual.

There are 2 Audio 30 systems. The US-based system is the crappy cassette unit that comes standard the European Audio 30 APS (APC?) is a NAV unit very similar to the Harmon/Becker nav system ... see www.crutchfield.com and search for harmon navigation.
I don't know if anyone's successfully transplanted the Audio 30 nav into a US car - although I'd sure like to! At around 600-800 Euro it's a good deal on a nav system with in-dash cd.
