There's something selling on ebay similar to this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...spagenameZWDVW

This actually has a similar concept to what a lot of EVO owners were using for their intake. Just opened the filter cover and strapped it down with clamps of some sort. Supposedly it worked, but I was never brave enough to try it.

you'll need to have the filter "front" enough so that it would suck in air from outside. otherwise it would still suck in the hot air inside the engine compartment.

I got some insulation tape that's rated to 1500 degree and just wrapped the instake tube with it as well as the under side of the airbox. It's rice, but so far in the heat it seems to be working.

Doubt it works, i could be wrong.

To my understanding, our air intake draws air directly from the outside rather from the engine compartment, thus making it a cold air intake. Where as most car's air intake are located in the engine compartment allowing it to draw in hot air from the engine.

you r right johnny, but while the air travels to the engine the intake tube may still be heated and heat up the air before it gets to the engine. the purpose of these stuff is basically to make sure you get the max airflow while allowing the air to go through to be as low temp as possible.

I understand what you're saying, Frank. The so called cold air intake on the website is designed entirely with aluminum. Aluminum conducts heat, while our intakes are made from cloth or plastic (doesn't conduct heat, if it does then a very small amount of heat). I honestly think this air intake will not solve the heating issue, just the distance it travels (maybe a foot less). I personally won't buy it unless i want some bling under the hood.

I’m not one to dissuade others from properly modifying their vehicle. That gimmick trinket will not enhance your MB. Might as well flush those funds down the toilet to achieve the same (lack of) benefits it will provide.

Best way to go is stock. Maybe with a Green or K&N filter in it though. Ofcourse the Renntech boxes and such will be better.

Black 04 C230 Kompressor SS
.........& to think the Mercedes Engineers could not think of that; or they did but decided, Nahhhhhhh, why bother?
Better if I rip out my stock air intake that was designed & tested to yeild optimum performance by proven Engineers & install something bought on E-bay which was originally designed for a Ricer!

hey man, Ive been thru that route. its garbage. trust me. search my threads up. I've done it. it makes a large sucking sound, and when cold, its better than the stock setup. but once the engine bay heats up. you'd hate it.

*edit*

oh yeah, global autoshop. eh? the quality is so crappy. seriously. the "heat cover" is plastic, cheap plastic. not heat proof plastic, its just "chrome" colored. filters are cotton filters but ehh. and the SS tubes are crappy as well.

I'd suggest you looking up the k&n typhoon intake. and customize it from that.

+3 looks like crap. Just replace you stock filter with a k&n untill you can really upgrade to something worth having.

not to bash on your hopes, but your car cannot make a roaring noise.
