sticky ventilation system?
My coupe's heat and A/C has a problem. This past winter, I couldn't get the heat to blow out of the floor vents unless I put the fan on full blast, and even then, you could hear it straining while opening and closing. My usually attentive and creative mechanic kind of rolled his eyes, like this was going to be a tough one (he hasn't attempted it yet). Now, the A/C seems to come out of the floor vents, even though I have it set for the dash. Any chance there's a DIY fix here, like spraying silicone or WD somewhere?

I hear you. My AC blows both floor and center vents when I have it set for the center vents only. I fixed it by duck taping the floor vents. I works for now and every few months or so I replace the tape. Cheap fix for me!

I get the same thing. My vents on the floor are permanently open no matter what vents i choose. When my father hooked up the car to the DAS computer the climatronic or whatever its called is throwing out fault codes saying some motor is not responding. It doesn't really bother me much so I haven't spent the time or money to fix it. I think I just might try the duck tape thing.

Sounds like you have a broken vent actuator arm or stepper motor. Common problem in early C class. Search on stepper motor for info on how to remove center console and lower dash to get at the problem.
