sanf,
great thread and DIY pics. That's the way it should be done.
This same process was demonstrated in a thread a few years back for the 01-04.5 MY head unit removal. Unfortunately, many of those photos have somehow turned into dead links, because people move on, and change servers and what not. I hope somehow the pics are saved on this thread for many years to come.
I had a few very useful DIY threads with many OEM installs back in the day, but unfortunately, the pics are still linked on the old MBWorld server, and now all I see is RED X's.
anyway, GOOD WORK

Thanks for the response.
Do you know if the "mid wire" would be an easy thing to remove??..... ie. would it be worth my time check out any salvage yards to see if they could pull the wire from a potential w203 between 05 to early 07??

Can anyone tell me if taking the HU out of an '03 model is much different than this? I assume there are some differences from the comment about not being able to use an '05 HU in an '04 model ....... but maybe the difference is just in mounting hole locations or something?

FM Antenna
Great DIY. I spent two hours today prior to finding this and I chickened out after the vents were removed. One question before I go at it again. I see two black wires that look like they both could be the FM antenna. Is one the antenna wire and is the end that plugs into the radio universal?

Search the forum - there are numerous posts on dismantling the console with pics. Good luck If you get a STFF - duck for cover & search in future before starting a new thread.

additonal info if you are interested on putting in an aftermarket HU
from thread AVIC-D3 installed on an 05+
also, Metra 99-8712 is the radio trim kit that will fit any 05+ w203, it comes as single din so you will have to mod out the pocket for a double din HU.

Sanf, you used the Scosche SCOVW03B and the back of your radio/harness looked exactly the pictures in this thread?

Nice DIY on getting the system out. I just installed my MB Ipod integration system last week and used these DIY pics. I appreciate it and now enjoying my IPOD in the car.
Thanks Sanf

Great DIY and thank you so much. I just took about 3 hours to do this. Yeah I took a bit longer than most people would, but I was relaxed and wanted to make sure I didn't break anything..
My 07 that I bought in Oct 06 did not have the white connector on the passenger side sill.
Another couple of tips are to zip tie the cable to the back of the HU so you don't pull it out after a few tugs on the cable when you are routing or later on.
The other is that the pin spacing on the back of the HU is the same as an IDE cable in your computer. So if you have an extra IDE or floppy cable around you can use a razor knife and cut it down to just a 2x2 size, 4 pins total so it will fit on the back of the radio. Just cut off one end and leave about 6-8 inches of the grey ribbon cable to use to connect to the 3.5mm cable. Make sure you solder the 3.5mm cable to the wires from the IDE cable and either shrink wrap or tape up the connections. And use pin 11 for - or common and 6 and 12 for right and left.
Then I ran the 3.5 cable down by the ashtray on the right side, then when it came out in the passenger footwell I just tucked it up under the center console so it would come out by the center armrest/storage until I finalize where I want it to go.
Great news is that with an iPhone hooked up this way you can use the stereo as a handsfree device. The iPhone will use its own mic and the speakers in the car. It sounds great. It is fun to play with the light saber app in the great sound of the C230 - whuuuooo, waaahhn, woooo waaa whooooo (light saber noises).
I didn't have to buy anything since I had everything in my old electronics parts bin. So cost out of pocket = $0, the cheapest mod I have done yet!

There IS a way to add the missing wire, you simply remove the head unit and plug into the correct pins. There is a really awesome DIY for this. Sorry I don't have the link - search the forum.
