2001 C240 broke again :(

yesterday, as I was driving past my friends, they told me to stay, so I put the car into reverse as I backed up we all heard a big THUMP. At first it sounded like my tired might have popped, but I immediately shut of the car and got out and looks. the whole car had lowered itself from the back by 2-3 inches. I started the car, put into drive and drove into a parking spot and left it running. The car raised back up to standard height in about 10 minutes. I reversed again, and yet again it lowered itself 3 inches. I left it running for a bit this time, and I bent over to the rear drive side tire and heard a hissing sound (just like the sound from the driver air seat cushions, when u de pressurize the seat)

Anyways, I towed the car back and its sitting at the shop. I might pick it up today...PLEASE What could be wrong? I know the 2001 c240 doesn't have a suspension control feature like the S430s. I don't know if my shocks gave out, or the suspension, one my friends said maybe the pump went out...WHAT HAPPENED? Thanks.

maybe...although i havent tried seeing the height lowering in drive yet, but if it something with transmission, any ideas on what caused it, or how to fix?

broken suspension arms perhaps. most likely not the suspension itself, but the bolts that's used to secure the arms came loose. it's only my guess.

The only, only way this could happen is if air springs/shocks were installed in place of the standard suspension (shocks and springs). Standard shocks do not contol ride height, springs do. In order for a standard C to behave like this so many things would have to be broken there is no way it could return back to normal. I'm guessing you bought this car used and a previous owner used it to haul a lot of weight in the back and installed a different suspension system or chopped the rear springs and is using the air shocks to adjust ride height. Have you looked at the springs/shocks? Remove a rear wheel and post a picture of the shock setup.

but yeah it happen to me a while back i was driving in the snow yes it snowed here in las vegas on dec. 19 cant forget that date 3 lane road and i was beside two cars i was probably ahead by 1/2 a car in the middle lane when i suddenly lost control block ice 29 degrees F by the way i saw the two cars going in on me i almost got sandwiched but yeah.

long story short got i hit the curved swereved well the tail swered i tried countersteering but no luck the right rear wheel hit the curv adn bent the suspension. its a 6k dollar job only paid 200 becuase under insurance after 5 months i heard a noise on the back every time i turn or stop a thump come to notice i looked underneath the car lifted up the bolt from the lower control arm conecting to the subframe is loose it only hangs about less than 1/2" and it would fall off. so i called up dealer blah blah blah nothing happens they said they would take a look at it and off course nothing happens because its "fletcer hoes"
