MB Of Pleasanton : My Tale Of "Service"
So this past Satuday evening I'm driving on my way to San Francisco. All of a sudden my CEL comes on. No biggie. Wasn't beating the car. Just driving bein cautious to my car. Thought theres nothing I can do til Monday morning. Ok, no big deal. Car didnt perform or sound any diffferent.
Sunday had to make a drive to my parents for Fathers day. Turned the car on, drove as normal. Car acted fine. On my way back to my house later that evening, I was getting ont he freeway. All of a sudden I felt through the throttle, the engine was REALLY rough. Turned the music down and was just cruising at 65mph. Sounded like a WRX with exhausted. Very sputtery instead of its normal hum. So I had to get home either way, continued to baby it home at 65mph. Pressed the throttle a lil to hear the engine, sounded VERY off and had a huge loss of power. My original thoughts where it was something that had to do with the cat/exhaust manif.
I take my exit to my house. I'm between 1/4 and 1/8 of a tank. Figure if anythings gonna happen where its gonna be serviced, it was gonna need a spalsh more of gas. Pull into the Chevron station [$3.95 might I add. Rape, much?!]. Pop the hood, check my belts, check under the car for leakign fluids. Check the exhaust line to see if anything was broken or whatnot. Ship-shape. Finsihed gassin up. Turned the car on and started up just fine. Typical hum in the exhaust note, no lag in throttle response / power. Didnt want to "get on it" because I didnt want to make it worse if it was going to get worse.
Wake up this morning, first thing I call Mercedes Of Pleasanton. Schedule and appointment for 10am. Drop the car off, talk to the S.A. [who pulled up my account info, CPO warranty, address, etc], typical b.s. So figured alright no biggie. Typical procedure and whatnot. I'd get a call saying "XXX is the problem, Its covered/not covered under warranty, etc".
Couple hours later in the day, figured I'd give them a call, cause I hadnt gotten one. Talk to the S.A. He then tells me it was a torn PCV hose. Says it was fixed and ready to be picked up. Fine, no biggie.
Get to dealership, and much to my amazement I thought I heard $4 and something in change, figuring it was a cheap replacement that wasnt under warranty. I'm totally fine with that. Nope, they say its $484.25. I look over the invoice $19.25 for the hose and $45 for "518 CPC... $465 for service [the whole point was that if it was a warranty covered part to have it taken care of. If not take to my mechanic to do at 1/3 of the cost]. So upon talking to the cashier, she said nothing was noted for CPO warranty. She said to come back tmrw and have it straightened out. I said no. I need the car now. Ill pay for it now and deal with it first thing tmrw morning. She told me what I needed to do for refund to take place and said that they were really good about refunds. There should have be no reason I should have had to pay for that. Nothing was made notice to me. Mind you its 7pm and they are all closed up for the nite. So figure whatever, I'll take my car home and deal with it tmrw. Just for ****z n giggles, I do a quick once over of my car, checking for scratches, dents, etc. Make my way around the car and notice A HUGE chunk of paint missing off the CUSTOM/PAINTED grille. I was pissed. Quickly broke out my camera and snapped a few.
Needless to say I'm not happy about the whole visit. Most of all my Grille. I later looked over ALL of my original paperwork from purchasing the car. Calculated from time of purchase to present, 262 days of ownership. I was informed of 12months or up to 100k of extended warranty when I purchased the car as a CPO. Not happy about that. Seems it was just input wrong. Thats minor in comparisson to the LACK of courtesy and care of a mercedes SHOWN AT a mercedes dealership. My grille now has to be sanded down and repainted.
Ugh. enough about my story, heres some pics:

1 PCV hose is part of emission system (original) warranty and should have been free.....period. I believe emission warranty is 5 or 8 years and 100K miles?
2. In California they cannot do a repair without your written, or verbal consent. Did you sign something with a maximum dollar amount for service when you dropped it off?

its 100k, from what I heard as well.
I signed an agreement that basically gives them permission to work on my car. Nothing of any maximum or mention of any dollar amount or consent to "go ahead and fix without notification of costs/repairs"

Don't go from "what you heard." You need to find out exactly what is written. If the part is in fact covered by warranty as another poster stated, you can claim fraud and file a lawsuit provided you have everything in writing.

yeah. i know. i know that its covered. but not sure in either of the coverage expirations, 5yrs/100k. im not looking to file suit, as im not sue happy. I jsut want the situation fully rectified [refund and repair of grille]. I have choices of other dealerships or even mechanics. Just find the whole deal pretty sh*tty. mainly my grille. that just clinched it for me.

Sounds to me like a Coil Pack....only shows up when you put your foot the floor. Clears itself when you stop and restart.
You never said what all that money was for?
You mentioned one hose 19.25, and then another 45 for labor.
Where's the rest of it gone?

And as actual time has anything to do with it...
like 1.5 hours an axle to replace pads and shee-ite.

I live in the SF Bay Area [San Ramon]. I looked at it and I got charged for the $19 hose and the $465 was for "service" [that entailed the chipping of my grille... careless *******s!]

Come In. Raise Hell. Go Home
So called my S.A. last nite when I got in regarding the matter. No call this morning. Talked to a member this morning, told him I was gonna call. He's like nah, go in. I figured, yea why not?! Gives me a reason to be a dick, heh.
Head down there, windows down, KoRN blasting. Pull into the garage, turn the car off and walk in. Sign in with my name and "DAMAGED WHITE C230". Get helped by another S.A. Started to talk to him and dude shut down immediately. Think he got scared. The original S.A. overheard me and was like "you were here yesterday". He pulls me into his office and i told him "Why did i get charged for something thats under CPO warranty!?". He responds with "it was supposed to have been taken care of, free of charge. I dont know what happend. We'll go ahead and refund you." Figure, okay, thats taken care of. Now about the damage.
Asked him whats gonna be done about the damage to a custom/painted grille. Told him it was just done about 2 months ago. He was like "well it could have been done when the hood was being closed." I said "With 5 coats of black and 3 coats of clear, I doubt it." He quickly opted to have the expense of the grille to be redone, taken care of.
So got refunded the full balance AND they are going to pay for my grille to be redone. Was happy with the satisfaction that I got AFTER the fact I had to go down there. The S.A. was totally apologetic, however, I think I'll be dealing with another dealership when it comes to warranty replaced items.

Yup, as a general lesson in life, you can accomplish more when you're in people's faces than via email or phone.
If there inclined to be dicks, it's so easy for them to forget you,
but if you're there and other customers might overhear, well thats bad for biz.
Ha! Money for the grill? I did mine with about 10 coats of black, and 10 of clear, but I did it myself. I aint ever gonna chip.

yeah told my buddy there was paint missing from my grille. he was like "what'd they do, open the ghood with a screwdriver?!"
I used automotive paint on mine and its effin durable and deep as hell. so it REALLY boggles my mind as to just how it 'chipped' off and an area that big.

Coupes don't have coil packs, They have coil on plug configuration.
