Lightbulb Thinking of Buying C230 Coupe

.. And i have a few questions. Keep in mind I know absolutely nothing of Mercedes-Benz..

So in general, is this considered a reliable car? Howbout compared to my Saab 9000? Are repair costs really going to be much higher than other brands / Saab?

Which engine is considered better / has better potential for upgrades, the 2.3L, or the 1.8L (both supercharged) , Which one sounds cooler?

What are some special things i should pay attention to when looking over one of these when considering a purchase?

I think I'm in love with this car. I love hatchbacks and i think this one looks amazing. I want either red or black, maybe silver, but they seem kind of rare here in Maine. How do they go in the snow?

There are A LOT of posts like this. Do a search, and the answers will come up.

Good luck, and let us know if you need help.

I don't know if it was the tires I had on the car but it absolutely sucked in the snow. I got stock in 1" of snow. rwd and no weight in the rear means no traction. Definitely don't depend on this thing for drivin in the snow.

Yea, i've been searching a lot, and a lot of junk in these w203 forums is drowning out the useful info. This places needs a w203 lounge, a w203 technical forum, and a w203 mods section

So basically a one sentence answer for my questions is all i'm looking for, and probably would take the same amount of time as telling me to look around more...

So is it like this?
1.8 > 2.3 (reliability wise)

or

1.8 < 2.3 (reliability wise)

And thank you for the useful snow answer. Is there even an LSD or standard TCS system?

What a coincidence, we were thinking the same thing about yours.

Less than a minute of searching resulted in several useful threads, such as -

Eight days since you started this thread and the best you can do is denigrate some of its most respected members??

I live in Canada where we get a lot of snow at times... I have a good set of snow tires and never got stuck, and I traveled in snow as deep at the stock front bumper.

I had a Saab 9000 in a previous life, C-230 is definitely an upgrade! Won't break down every six months and the electrical system isn't wired by gorillas!
