Based off the pics, there no real way to avoid opening the head light. Even if you get another ignitor, you will still have to open the head light so you can attached the harness to the new ignior. It look like the 12v harness is inside the head light with the ignitor.
There's no real way of bypassing the ignitor, since you need them to start the arc in the HIDS, short of getting a separate ballast with ignitors.
I dont think this will fix your flicker problem in the first place. All the ignitor does, is exactly what the name implies. It starts the arc to create light from the xenon bulbs. The ballast is the unit that actually continues to feed it power to give off light. If your hids are actually producing light, there's no real reason to suspect your ignitor is bad.
Since you have to take out your head lights anyways, i would suggest getting the ballast from the other side and try plugging into the side with flickering. The ballasts are probably located directly under the head lights.

Well, as it turns out this is the way to replace the igniter now.
It is NOT neccessary to disassemble the housing.
(after searching 20000 other useless threads )
Thank Gaiex...again!
FYI to anyone attempting this, the only important thing to know according to the dtb is
a. cut the wires as close as possible to the existing igniter (this may require removing the entire headlamp assembly)
b, cut EACH WIRE SEPERATELY!
or you may short something and have a nice jolt as well as a damage components.
The pn's shown are for the coupe only.

So...I finally got the answer per DTB-p-b-82.10/376d.
The parts needed depend on the model. The new igniter module is about 50 bucks and fits in the back of the unit.
See Gaiex's thread here...
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?p=3097265
Turned out my problem was just the bulb.
On the coupe they're held in with clips.
I ordered a new set of Philips bulbs off ebay for 50 bucks.

Today I got my local guy's spare WIS system working after the computer died, and bought a new CMOS battery for it for $20. (Turned out that was all that was wrong with it)
One hand greases the other...and yeh, he has a SDS.
Attached is the bulletin.
Includes instructions and pn's.
Since the mods are obviously at work, please delete this if necessary.
Otherwise it will self destruct in 5 seconds.
EPC just calls it a "cover" as did the parts dept. at Smyth, though it actually includes the igniter.
End of subject....
man is this thread a trip now that everything is merged.

You called the dealer and they said won't touch it, hmm, did you really expect them to say anything else? Do you have an SA that you normally work with? If you don't it's going to be hard. You need to build a relationship with an SA, find out from the salesperson who the best SA's are, make an appointment with him when he's not rushed, like at 10AM when they are done with the mad morning rush, tell him you want an oil change or alignment and while the car is in there, can he have the mechanic set the xenon=present option on so you can use xenon bulbs and tell him you will make it worth his while if he can do you this favor. Then find a way to make it worth his while, I usually bring him a $20 Starbucks card or something. Seriously, when I bring gifts for SA's, they love you forever, they will not try so hard to rip you off next time, it the long run you will save money and get stuff like this done and get nice loaners instead of the one that a got thrown up in.

Sorry - you are correct - I really meant to say the parts in the Photographs were Hella (kit). Hence I said all "these" parts - Mike & I have a long going thing about "Bosch sucks" - I stood up for Bosch, only to be faced by a whole raft of Bosch failures on the forum
Thanks for posting the pdf.

Backwards, it's "Driver returns on foot".
So, I fnally got my new Bulbs (thats all that was wrong).
Blake, bless his heart, I exchanged lights with him, but I was almost immediately disappointed as the Xenon's seemed not as bright as my old Philips Crystal Vision Halogen bulbs. Hard to believe but true.
He had installed some cheapo overseas 6K bulbs (too ricey in my opinion)
but said they weren't that old. (FYI- I'm not doubting him or anything)
Well, here's a pic. As you can see, old busted down Cheapo bulbs on the left side of the pic, and new blindingly bright Philips 85122+ bulb on the right.
The pics is a little dark, I tried various exposures, but this one best showed the difference without the new one just showing up as a blinding light.
After this I replaced the left one too as well.
I got a set on ebay for 55 bucks including shipping!
Awesome deal! And supposedly new even.

sorry from bringing this back up,
but i'm experiencing a problem with my bi-xenon again...
and i have been looking at the repair kits.
is there a big difference between the bixenon on a C-class sedan and a C class coupe ...
I mean, the bix-igniter repairkit from the sedan costs 270 € 's en the one vor the coupe only 45 € ' s ...
I'd like to try to fit the repait kit from the coupe, cause its cheaper, but I drive a sedan ... if it doesn't work ive lost an extra 45, but if it works, it save's me like +200 ...
grtz

I have no idea if the repair kits are interchageable. But you should note that the Sedan BiX are made by Automotive Lighting & the Coupe by Hella.

The kit I have is completely different from the rest of you guys for some reason. Mine's a puck that fits onto the base of the bulb, not an ignitor built into the back cover.

is this what he sent you?

I thought i had a bad ignitor but replaced the ballast first because it is easy to do luckily that fixed my problem killing bulbs. anyway i always planned to buy one of theses and retrofit it into my bix because they were used on the newer d2s and if you look at the wiring it has 3 prongs same as the other style and it has the increased KV whatever that is i just know they increased it from 25kv to 35kv to help ignite the bulb.
Dingleberry try switching the ballasts because from my experience with my bix i have had two bad ballets and zero bad ignitors. That way you don't waste money on a part you don't need. If you want i can let you borrow one of my ballasts i have in by bix box (It includs a bix light that is missing tabs, 2x ignitors, 1 sort of working ballast, 1 dead ballast, and 3 or 4 d2s bulbs) lol that works fine it just kills bulbs after like 6 months.

I have my old frosty xenon headlights with known good ballasts. Do you know if the frosty ballasts work on bix headlights?

From my understanding all the ballasts for the w203 will work so that should not be an issue.
