Try cleaning the IR window on the key, and on the doors. Also...I'm guessing maybe the IR function requires more battery power than the lock/unlock transmitter? Maybe a new battery? I had the same problem....intermittent...with both doors at different times and both times they replaced the IR receiver in the affected door. Lucky for me it failed when they tested it. There's a LONG list of TB's for your car. Get the service history from MB and see what's been done and needs to be done or looked at (like the Valeo radiator!). I had most of the problems listed in the TBs and they were fixed under warranty. Car runs great and is still very solid after 123K miles. Probably will keep it as the the grocery shopper when we buy a new one next year....thinking CLK 350.

I have two (Coupe version and Sedan version) love them both,
2003 going on 40k miles, and 2004.5 going on 50k miles
no major issues on either one of them, at all ! Love 'em to death !
Will baby them as long as I can... I keep all my benzies....
