Terms of my warranty...

I would like to know some of the things that are part of my warranty. I'd rather not ask my father since he'll get paranoid and wonder why I'm asking such questions. I figure people here can be just as helpful since some of you are leasing your Benz too.

1) Visitng the MB shop, do they provide free car wash, tune up ...or must I have a reason for them to do it for me?
2) If the car is stolen, does the lease warranty replace the car?
3) Will it be replaced even if the car is stolen in a state other then where the insurance is registered too?
4) Is it ok to ask my dealer/ MB mechanic if I can install mods or will they use that question as a breach of agreemement and thus hold me accountable if my car ever break down?

Please no flames as I haven't done anything wrong, just being curious.

ppl might get the wrong idea about the stolen/insurance scenario. Dunno about that stuff but here's the deal on warranty. When something goes wrong with the car the dealer/MBUSA have to prove that the mod caused the car to breakdown (they have the burden of proof) and the failure has to be related to the mod. Also I recommend getting to know your MB dealer (shop around to see which ones are nice and which ones are @$$holes) and treat them nice (bring em breakfast donuts or something). I did that for my Audi dealer and when my cat broke off from my manifold on my 99 A4 (i had aftermkt DP+exhaust...bad install). They pointed out to me thats what happened but gave me a brand new cat +fixed the DP setup so it wouldnt happen again. A box of donuts $5-8 is well worth the investment

About the stolen car part... My parents were worried that the place I was going to park my car at was dangerous. So I proceeded to make a joke about it, that don't worry car would get replaced. But then someone told me because my insurance is registered in a state other then the place I was at, if the car, God forbid, would be stolen.. it wouldn't be replaced. How true is this?

BTW, by dealer do you mean the person who sold me my car or the person at the shop (which is miles away from the dealership)? I heard that the guy who sold me my car, has nothing to do with repairs, and that if I need anything, I'd have to go to the actual MB shop.

Your car's comprehensive insurance (fire/theft) will cover your car for what it's worth (not what you owe). Many lease deals include or give you the option to include gap insurance. This covers the difference from what you owe and what your insurance company gives you. Call the leasing dept at your dealer and ask if gap insurance has been provided, if not call your own insurance company and ask about gap coverage.

No. That is up to each dealership, although many MB shops will go out of the way to wash the car for you. This is by no means obligated. "Tune-up" no way. They will provide maintenance service intervals which are included, but not just when you drive in at any time (only when the wrench is on, or your mileage indicates that its about to come on). You can't just drive in when you feel like it and get a free car wash, detail and tune-up.

2) If the car is stolen, does the lease warranty replace the car?
Car lease has nothing to do with insurance issue. This is an insurance issue. You do owe a car back to the car dealership in a lease, and your insurance company owes you a replacement (assuming you have normal insurance). If you don't have insurance, you are now on the hook for providing the replacement.

3) Will it be replaced even if the car is stolen in a state other then where the insurance is registered too?
Again, lease has nothing to do with this. This is an insurance issue. However, with insurance, you are contractually obligated to provide the locale where this car will be predominantly used/housed. They will overlook temporary housing for students since that isn't usually classified as place of primary domicile.

4) Is it ok to ask my dealer/ MB mechanic if I can install mods or will they use that question as a breach of agreemement and thus hold me accountable if my car ever break down?
You can ask your dealership anything. Depending upon what you do and how it affects the car - determines what they are responsible for. If its even remotely related and they want to make a big deal out of it - yes, they can nullify that part of the warranty. Don't believe the 'they must prove it" verbage, if they challenge it - you're pretty much hosed. Obviously you don't have (or want) the wherewithal to challenge and go to court on something like this. . .

Sounds like you're mistaking the difference between warranty issues and insurance issues. You may want to seriously look into the both of them so you understand where your responsibility is and where the dealership and insurance companies responsibilities are.. . .

if you are leasing the car I would definately have GAP insurance. If you have teleaid dont be too worried you should eb able to track the car if stolen, or if your parents are really paranoid get lojack installed.

2) If the car is stolen, does the lease warranty replace the car?
I am leasing my C230K and had the same kinda question. I'm not so much worried about it being stolen, but it being written off in an accident.

With the amount of technology in this vehicle I figured its a good bet that it'll survive an accident, but whether it'll be repairable is another issue. If it costs too much to repair the insurance company will write it off and give you the book value of your car.

In the first 2 years, this "gap" can be huge, so Gap Insurance is a good thing to have. Even with Gap you're still screwed cause you paid other fees to get your car (delivery, taxes) which are not covered. Also you are stuck buying a new car again (more fees, taxes, ect...), cause within the first 2 years it'll be difficult to find one used. When you buy a new one you're starting from scratch rather than at a comparablevalue of the car you had.

What I looked into was if there is some sort of "replacement" insurance for new cars... which apparently there is... that within the first year my insurance will buy me a brand new car if mine is written off. This is NOT gap insurance, this is above and beyond gap, but apparently it exists... or I'm understandming my insurance policy wrong, or the broker I talked to lied.
