displacement dosen't translate well from piston engines to rotary engines. If you actually argue that since displacement is calculated by multiplying the max volume of each cylinder by the amount of cylinders, you COULD argue that you should multiply the volume of the MAX size of the combustion chamber by 3 (3 chambers per rotary engine). this would change the displacement of the RX7 to 3.9L

I don't think n/a vs. fi is a fair comparison in terms of power to displacement.
the M271 engine is great, but it's nothing compared to the original 2.0L F20C1 of the S2000, the S54 M3 engine, or the F360's engine. For n/a cars, their power to displacement is waaaay more impressive.

I'm not arguing normally aspirated versus forced induction, only power/displacement. Sure you can add a blower to the S2 motor and make BIG power, but from the factory is what counts.

I saw that and was salivating (you know how I feel about displacement) but that has got to be way beyond my budget of $3000 for 300hp. The 4.0 is rated pretty close to the MKB 3.5L cam/springs/headers kit actually if I remember correctly, in the mid 300s. Is it a bored 3.5L or a stroked one or something more sinister? Do you know much about it?

nope, they take your existing engine out and drop in a already assembled engine and beef up your tranny. they take your original engine and make another Brabus engine out of it.

$15K sounds about right really, maybe even low. The freakin' MKB kits (cams/springs/headers) is $13K for 330hp. $15k for 340 is pretty good comparatively but still way past what I want to do. I agree with others, if I had $15K to spend I'd sell mine and buy a C55 and put a chip in that. TruTaing , how could they increase the displacement without at least taking your engine out and boring the cylinders or stroking the crank or both? That would really probably be a block swap at best. Is that what you were thinking it was? That's what I thought, that it was your old heads/cams/intake and you just did a block swap (send them your stock block and they sent you a bored long block that had a stroker crank in it as well).

I'm not taking anything away from the S2 engine. It's a blast to drive, and makes plenty of power - but when it comes down to the numbers, it's making only 1.8% more power/liter than the M271.

Yes. A few decades ago, I installed a Crane 238/249 (@.050”) in my Camaro. Ripped easy 12’s, but it was a ‘tard anywhere outside of sanctioned events.
Because you are younger that I, your indiscretions and subsequent posts shall henceforth be filled amongst the “he never grew out of it” incorrigibles.
Why did you buy a Mercedes?

btw, did you check out AMG-jerry's thread on the larger crank pulley they discovered? said should bring about 19-20psi of boost compare to the stock 14.7 or the evosport/renntech/asp etc 17psi. should be an healthy 25 to the wheel with the larger heat exchanger.

I tried to send that mean-spirited post to the great beyond…too late.
You know damn straight I’m itching for some more ponies, but only in the most civilized of ways. Somehow 14 PSI just doesn’t achieve the same thrill it once did. Never enough.
OD pulleys beckon!

Toss the bi-tch out the door
Yup, push that **** chewing old nag out the door while the car is moving, and you'll notice an immediate improvement in performance, thats 200 lbs right there! You been telling her to go on a diet, but she just won't listen, and everytime she speaks, you'd swear it sounded like Jabba the hut. Eeek Wok mok Chewbac waka ha ha ha!
What Optima battery weighs 15 lbs?
Don't see that one listed..
http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...cal_specs.html
I would have to wonder, is it possible to pull the back seats?
How about the passenger seat? Would you end up with SRS errors?
Door panels? (Aren't the airbags in there?)
Windows?
Interesting idea's.
Anyone know where the nearest drag strip is near the bay area, where I can do either 1/8 or 1/4 mile?
I'd like to test out the theory that losing 100 lbs results in 1/10 faster time.
Saw a race on TV the other day, one car beat another by 1/100th of a second!

Someone asked about how to lighten the C-Class recently so I thought it might make a good thread. I didn't think it was really even feasible, for a little added performance, until I had my resonator removed and decided to weigh it. The thing weighed over 10 lbs! What's in those things? And it was replaced by a pipe that barley weighed anything. So I took out the spare and replaced it with a Fix-a-Flat kit. The spare weighed 40 pounds! That's 50 pounds right there without giving up much convenience. So then I found a thread about the Optima race batteries and realized you can fit them to the Mercedes replacing a 60 pound stock battery with a 15 pounder saving another 45 pounds! Ok, that might be a little painful as those things will trickle discharge from your clock if you let them sit for a few weeks -- but still it's a big savings and right over the nose heavy engine bay. Those 3 things alone are worth 95 pounds. Another nice bennie is a performance muffler. A good street/racing straight-through style muffler can be 20 pounds lighter than a stocker (I've read, haven't weighed my SuperSprint yet). Making these changes not only gives the car a much better sound (and possibly a few extra ponies from reduced back pressure) but can also make the car 115 pounds lighter which is like adding another 10 horsepower!
