Problem With AMG Sway Bar Install on 02 Coupe

I purchased the front and rear sway bars for my 02 Coupe using the part numbers in this forum.

I'm currently trying to install the front sway bar but I am having difficulty getting it to line up with the end links. I purchased the sway bar with the bushings premolded, part number 203 23 44 65. When I purchased the front sway bar I was not aware that it had the premoled bushings so I also purchased them separate. But I have since purchased the correct bushing mounts, part number 203 323 27 40.

But the problem is when the sway bar is bolted onto the car the end links do not line up. Then end of the sway bar sit about three inches or so above the end link mounts.

Since the part numbers are correct for the install I am wondering if the bushings are possibly mounted at the wrong angle causing the ends not to line up. Before I go cutting the premolded bushings off and just use the ones I originally order I just wanted to make sure that I am doing every thing correctly and that I am not missing anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Joshua

How about a pic?
I recall that people did cut the premolded bushing off...ah it's been so long.
I can dig for my reciepts and tell you the PN's I used back in 2003 if neccessary.
I didn't need to replace the mounts. But definately the bushings.

Do you have the car jacked up?
Or trying to do it with the car on the ground.
That could be your problem.

You need to put it on jackstands.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics just because it was so hot and I didn't want to be outside any longer.

Problem solved. I ended up just cutting off the premolded bushings, which is a huge mess even with a dremel.

Luckily the rear sway bar went on in no time.

Why they every went to premolded bushing...who knows.

They've replaced my bushings under warranty twice since I put the AMG bar on, and LOL, I don't think they used the AMG ones.
I didn't ask them to do it...if I'd known...
I guess with the premolded they'd just replace the whole sway bar!

I keep meaning to measure the thickness of the bars to make sure they didn't replace them too! Though the rear one is so obvious.
Makes a great coat hanger!
Congrats on your successful install.
Bet you noticed the difference right away!
Now for some new springs and shocks!

the premolded bushings were the fix for the squeaks that were caused by the movement on the previous ones that were not molded---mine were a little off but depending if you had the car in the air or not on both sides was the determining factor in how easy or hard it was to get the 2 parts to line up
