Emergency brake problem?

Just this past weekend, I stopped hearing/feeling the ratchet clicking when I depress the pedal. It still holds at the end, releases with the hand level and seems to work but, perhaps, not as firmly.

Has anyone experienced this? Suggestions?

Wow, same thing happened to my 02 C320 wagon too. There is this plastic clip that snapped off from the release handle. I was wondering if there is a replacement for that. If yes, how difficult to replace it.https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Here's hoping that someone knowledgeable comes to our aid.

How long have you been running this way and have you noticed any consequent problems?

My adjustment mechanism needed cleaning and lube to restore normal operation.

OK. That's the one under the rear seat, right? What materials did you use?

Did you read through the old thread? I think they discussed it in there:

I did now but the only specific I saw was the use of WD40 to clean the gasket and internal surfaces. Nothing specific about lubing the cables or mechanism.

Yes, WD40 for cleaning and lubing all the parts and cables. There was lots of crud, from the Northeast winters.

Well, I accessed the adjustment mechanism, cleaned it and lubricated it, even though it was pretty clean. It seems to work just fine and both wheels are affected. Consequently, I assume that the loss of the ratchet is due to that part in the front portion of the mechanism near the pedal.

As Axion711 asked: What part is it and how does one get access to it?
