Tiptronic vs manual
Anyway, this got me wondering weather an auto using its triptronic can gain that extra half second the manny has on the 0-100K/hr (0-60mph). Technically I can't see any reason why it couldn't unless the ratios are different.

so, you're saying that there may be a shiftronic shifting pattern that is optimal for 0-100kmph? i thought that you go to 1, and just step on it, it'll shift at 6k rpm, and that's it.
Until what speed did you stop racing?...did you get to the front of him when you decided enough is enough???.
I think the C200K auto would do mid 9 seconds 0-100, the tiptronic won't make a difference coz if you leave it in "D", the auto tranny should upshift when it hits the redline. Be careful when you manually use the tiptronic coz if you leave it other than "D" then it won't upshift unless you tap the gear level to the right as I have over revved my car a couple of times cos I was late in changing the gears.
If you have Kleemann pulley, you'll shave 1 second off you 0-100 time tho

I don't know about an optimal shifting pattern...using the tiptronic does avoid that split second lag the auto trannies have when you floor it. Quite possibly the result would have been the same using straight auto against that **** prelude driver!

Can C230 coupe gear upshift by itself eventho you leave the gear other than "D"????... I thought only C32 can do that.
It didn't upshift by itself in my C200K but when I tried it in C32 it upshift all the time at redline no matter if you start in "D" or "1"

the c200k is different? the c230k automatically upshifts when it hits redline when in manual-like mode.
JeT...wanna give it a try since your car uses the same engine like mine?

Was the Prelude Vti-R??, based on magazine stats the Prelude should be faster compared to C200K, unless the Prelude's driver screwed up at the start.

Are you joking? Even the C230K won't get to 100 in the 1/4 mile and that takes 14.5-16 seconds depending on setup.
.... oh...I forgot to tell you guys that we aussies use km/h not mile/h .... so in your part of the world then it would be 0-62mile/hour ... i hope that makes everything clear
WARNING: E55's do not upshift automatically.
ah, crikey! i forgot about the crocodile hunter
Every test of a Mercedes that I have read says that they got the best times by letting the transmission do the shifting.
Baj, I'll give the redline a whirl next time I'm on an appropriate road.
I could make this race a war victory tale...but just wouldn't seem right!!
The Vti-r specs tell the true story!
Baj, your car and pulley would have kicked him me thinks!

I'll get my chance but hopefully after the unichip/chiptorque and intercooler me thinks ... not for another at least 4-6 months

Does Aussie spec cupholder take oil cans?
that was my previous car before I got my C200K. I used to have 1994 Prelude Vti-R, pretty quick car, don't think C200K have a chance if the Prelude's driver has a good launch at the start, mind you the 94-97 Prelude Vti-R comes with manual only so theres some good chances that the driver will screw up the launch
. Anyway the stats for that Prelude Vti-R is 142kw (7000 rpms) with 210Nm torque. Based on magazine stats they can do 8 seconds 0-100 and 15.5 for 1/4 mile time.

The "triptronic" is mechanically just a regular, torque converter automatic transmission with a gimmicky way of causing it to shift gears. Almost all automatics are programmed to give maximium acceleration if you leave it in "Drive" and floor it. Whether it shifts when the computer tells it to shift, or when you press the button, makes no difference, performance wise, because mechanically its doing the exact same thing.
