Turn Signal Problem

The right front turn signal is out. I took the bulb and socket from the left side (which is working) and pluggged it in the right side and it did not work. Does anyone have any suggestions on the problem or how I can determine the problem. I'm hopping it is not the housing that is bad. Any input isw appreciated.

Wow thats the same exact problem I have with my projectors right now. I mean identical word for word what you said. Anyways, I have no clue, but once I find time, since I'm I have classes now, I have to take the projector out and see if theres something wrong with housing or sumtin. Most likely I wont be able to diagnose and I'll have to out the stupid frostys back in. For me this issue is extremely annoying because getting parking spaces at school has gotten 5 times tougher!!

Troubleshooting. DVM = digital voltmeter. Do you get what you expect? If not; start tracing.

Thanks for the help. DVM is a good starting place. Any other car you just replace the bulb, but not a MB. That would be too easy. When the bulb went out on the rear it was the socket that went bad. That was a easy fix. I'm afraid this time it is not going to be easy or cheap.

Well when I was first looking at it and trying to get it to work, the socket would get stuck, and after a few tries, one of the metal tabs on the side of the socket was getting more and more bent outwards with each attempt, i think it was from pulling the socket out, because it would not twist out appropriately....I went to the dealer and got a brand new socket, and no luck...so thats why it must be the cheap projectors, glad I didn't pay too much...

I have an '03 CLK and the same issue came up with my left front turn signal. Swapped the socket from right to left and no luck. Left socket in right turn signal works fine. Did you happen to find out anything more about the cause of this problem?

Yes, I got the turn signal fixed. Found out the cclass had problems with turn signals not working. The contacts in the housing would go bad. MB can out with a fix in these situations. Instead of replacing the complete light housing you can can purchase a wiring harness kit that splices into the existing wiring. The kit comes with the wiring, socket and bulb. When the kit is installed you have a old fashion socket that have wires going to it.
I purchased a kit for the left and right side, I was told when one goes bad the other side is not far behind. Total cost for both kits was $55, and it was $50 for the install. $105 total.
I guess that is not bad,if it was not a MB the turn signal would still be working, when it breaks you just replace a bulb. Now I have a typical turn signal setup. Hope this helps, good luck.

anyone know where I might get an after market replacement kit for this bad socket instead of having to visit the dealer? I might add that I had a bad MAF sensor in my 2001 c240 and instead of replacing it I simply cleaned it with carb spray cleaner and car runs GREAT and no more error codes or check engine!! A lot cheaper repair and better MPG!!

you can make your own socket... you just need to drill a couple holes and solder the wire onto the contact on the inside of the socket, then wire it up. For my socket, it was the ground that went bad so i wired it to the body of the car.

This is a very common problem with Merc, no need to purchase any thing from merc dealers go to auto zone buy http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Dorman-Conduct-Tite-18-14-gauge-blue-weatherproof-wire-quick-splice-terminal/_/N-25oe?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=wire+splice&fromStr ing=search&itemIdentifier=88098_0_0_ get 4 of this wire splice terminals 3 ft of 18 gage wire and do it your self, the wire at the car connector is the one at the right if looking the connector upside down, if you have any concern of which may be the right wire just use a voltmeeter and see which one measures 12 VCC while the hazard lights are flashing (have in mind you may read 8-9 volts since the flash ocurres to fast, then:

Grab the terminal (purchased from autozone)
splice the connector wire about 3 inches away from connector
jamm in the other wire your purchase on to the same splicer terminal
and do the same with the light wire (the one that goes to the bulb) and to the other side of the purchase wire.
