CAN Bus Location?
Hello,
I want to know if anyone knows where I can access the can bus in a coupe. I have a hankerin' it's in the outside of passenger side footwell. Anyone seen the wires or know where it is?
I don't feel like taking off trim pieces of I don't have to.

Both, I assumed they were in the same location.
Most modern cars I've dealt with run the communications to a hub area at some point on the car.

Enterprise rent-a-car!!!
MB's have 2 CAN's (except new 221's) and either the central gateway or the EIS is the 'Hub' for comunication between the two.
Interior (or chassis) CAN wiring is brown and brown with red stripe, engine CAN is green and green with a white stripe. The junction box you are looking for are in the wiring channels below and in front of the doors. Engine can is on the drivers side chassis can is on the passenger side. The bus is a black plastic connector about 2-3 inches long and has multiple connectors coming out of one side. One connector per control unit. What are you trying to perform diagnosis on ??

Ah, the R-Class and ML I looked at both had em both in the passenger side footwell. As for hub, I was talking about the black piece where all the controllers are plugged into. Perhaps not the correct terminology.
I'm not going to do diagnosis, I'm going to record vehicle information. If I was doing diag it's easier to poll the gateway through the OBD II. I'm hoping to gather baseline performance information and track the gain of mods. I'm toying with the idea of doing some ECU tuning too.

I'm getting a U0100 no communication with engine management from my transmission and trying to track it down.

Hello, I read your location description for Engine Can, which I think is connected to TCM hi / lo can wires. When you say it's located on the chassis, is that under the car or can you pinpoint where it would be on a 06 cls500?

You can find the location of the junction blocks in the attachment to this post:

Look under the W211 section for the info applicable to your vehicle.
