C180 Avantgarde 2002 Stereo Help Please

Hi guys..

I was actually searching for a solution for this stereo problem i have on my mercedes 2002 C180 Avantgarde when i stumbled upon this forum, evryones wonderfully helpful..so im going to give this a shot...

Right, as i mentioned, i have just made a purchase of the C180, avantgarde 2002 model, a wonderful machine, but the only problem is trying to get my standard factory installed single din CD player to play copied CD's or MP3 discs which i have made on my homepC. Most my collection of music is stored on CDR's but my stereo simply doesnt want to play them.. all the original CDs work fine..

I belive theres some sort of lock which is not allowing this feature... does anyone more intelligent then me and someon with more experience with mercs help me out here... this is my first mercedes.. so im still working my way around.

Great work on this forums by the way.. keep up the wonderful work everyones doing!

Thanks all.

The Audio 10 in the W203 was notorious for doing that. Some on a German forum claimed success with some CDR brands but others couldn't make them work. GL

I have also had the problem with consumer made CD's not working in automobile decks. I studied a disc made in one of our plants with a copy made with a CD burner in a desktop computer. I discovered that the injection molded commercial CD had very even sides on the pits. The commercial masters are made with Pilkington glass, the same company that makes Mercedes windows. The glass melts very smoothly, so the nickel masters and sons are very smooth also. The desktop copy had rough jagged edges on the pits, and those were reflecting the reader beam in the player instead of attenuating the beam.

What we did was dispatch a minion to secure different brands of CD blank media and several brands of CD burners. What worked best, but not in every case was Fuji media and Liteon burners. The Fuji media still showed jagged edges, but they were more like frayed compared to "chewed by the dog" look of the most inexpensive blank media from China.

I am not sure that a 2002 head unit can resolve MP3's at all. I personally run an MP3 player audio out into the jack fitted in the glove box, but that trick does not work on a 2002 without an invasive operation on the Audio 10.
