Service B and needs front brakes soon
I took my 2005 C230K SS to the dealer yesterday. They replaced my dash vents and cupholder because the chrome was peeling off. They also performed a Multi-Point Inspection of the car. On the checklist provided to me, the Technician recommendation states: "Will need front brakes soon"
I am currently at approximately 44,600 miles and I have owned the car for 3 years 1 month. I will be needing Service B in about 2,000 miles.
How much will all of this work cost? Are the brakes usually worn around this mileage? What exactly would be replaced: the brakes and the rotors?
My plan has been to sell the car before the 4/yr 50,000 mile warranty expires because I do not want to deal with the various problems which have popped up on my C-Class out of my own pocket. I am willing however to give MBZ another chance, so the 2008 C300 Sport has been on my shortlist. My hope was to drive my current car a little while longer until prices on the new C come down a bit after the initial frenzy for the new bodystyle. I have a feeling though that the new brakes and Service B may force my hand early.
What are your thoughts?

service B is just a waste of money
just do oil change, and change the cabin filter urself. Do the brakes at indy shop or do it on your own if you know how.

it's easy to reset, but forgot how exactly, but turn your ignition to first or second position.
and go to service screen and press and hold the reset button.
that should do it

Get Mobil-1 at Walmart, I think they have good prices for it. I would say get filter at autohausaz.com. To save on shipping, you may buy other stuff like the cabin filter, engine air filter (needed at 4 yrs/40K miles I think), fuel filter, brake rotors and pads. I believe if you buy over $50 worth of stuff it's free shipping. If you want genuine MB, check Duval Motors, an MB dealer in FL (link on my website), he discounts pretty good. Also, I would change tranny oil at around 50K miles as it gets rancid and very dirty by the then and worth changing but don't do it yourself, there's special tools required on the 2005+ that you won't likely have so find a good indy to do it, figure about $200 give or take to do (parts alone are $150 to do it yourself).
Brakes are one of those things that some people need every year, some people go a couple of years. You can see how worn it is by looking in between the spokes of the wheel at the pad thickness between the rotor and pad backing plate. I like to change when it gets below 1/8". I've been using ceramic pads (someone here can share brand names for 2005, my 2004.5 uses different pads) because of their near zero dust and quiet/smoothness. You will definately need brakes when the brake pad warning light comes on, most people wait for that as the sensor is only about $5 and only on one wheel.

Is that service B all about? sounds like service A... don't they even have a closer look at details? I already skept my serviceA(DIY) and B is comming soon in less than 1000miles. should I skip it too and do like an A?

I wouldn't skip any maintenance the car needs---especially if it is under warranty. Just a quick question....what kind of nut is holding the oil in under the car....is it for a regular wrench or an allen wrench that must be used to take this off.
