Realize you've solved your problem, but the "snap, crackle, and pop" followed by silence is usually due to crap fiber connections. I just spent the better part of three hours under a friends dash trying to sort that one out.. Seems like DICE shipped a bad fiber with his kit....

Snap, crackle and pop

Based on the other symptom I noticed, the light in the fiber connection flickering on and off when the noises hit, I assumed it was either the fiber or the fiber adapter module Dice shipped, sourced from another company based in Italy.

The discussion with support was interesting, overall they were very nice, and had offered to ship a new fiber module. When I mentioned I did not want to pay for more RMAs since the total cost was approaching what I could have gotten a different unit for, I was told noone else made D2B units. After mentioning the Gateway 500 D2B which Enfig also happened to carry, I was told I should go with that one, since it was newer. This from Dice support. Uhhh, don't have to tell me twice.

Talked to Enfig again, exchanged the Dice for credit toward a Gateway, and so far very happy with it.
