The pop-up Glass panel on the Coupe is a different design, but just not as effective at quelling the buffeting noise.

any solution for this?

buffeting
Well, if that little device actually reduces or eliminates the buffeting of the Panorama roof in its more "wide open" postions, it's well worth retrofitting to a 2002 or early 2003 car. I'll test drive one at my dealer...when he gets one that has the hump.
All their presently-in-stock 2003s have not been humped

What noise?!! Come on you guys there has not been one post complaining about the wind noise until this little pimply thing was noticed (actually can't confirm that as I didn't search). I don't seem to have the pusing noise and if I do I haven't noticed it...maybe I'm deaf!
You'd think MB would have been a bit more innovative after 3 years of making the coupe...like putting in an auto close for the pan (or have they done that?).

buffeting
Open the panorama roof fully, keep both side windows closed tightly and drive around at between 40 and 80 km/h. If you don't hear any buffeting whatsoever I'd be amazed. Drive into and away from winds if it's a windy day.
If you can't hear any buffeting under any conditions and you don't have the hump, you should have your hearing tested![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
The buffeting sensation is like when an "import scene" car with huge boom boxes pulls up to you at a light - a very low frequency pulsation that drills right into the ears. The buffeting is caused by pressure waves in the cabin being created when the sheet of air coming over the hood and wind deflector panel descends onto all or part of the open roof area. It seems as though the flip up wind deflector is optimised for higher speeds...but from 40 to 80 km/h is a typical speed in urban areas, so it makes it difficult to keep the roof wide open in such areas. Cracking open one or both side windows will make it go away, but then the wind noise from these becomes obtrusive.

I agree with MikeT, just open your windows a little bit. If you really want to get trick open one more than the other and you will cancel out two resonances:p. You can also close the sunroof a little to get less buffeting.

It doesn't bother me in the front, I pretend it's bass coming from the magic subwoofer.

yeah actually when i have my pana roof open i leave a crack open on my left/right window and really dont have the issue. I'd rather do that then have a "hump" on top of my car (that thing dont look right). HOWEVER, I would like to know if anyone (someone who actually own their car and have skillz) want to try to put the seatbelt extender........that however I would love to have.

It appears that the entire seatbelt height adjuster assembly has been revised. The whole thing looks different and not just the addition of the clip. I played with it for a few minutes and I don't think it's worth the aggravation to retrofit. It didn't seem to make much of an improvement. Late'03 owners may have other opinions as to whether or not this is a "must-have".

Every car I have owned with a sunroof made noise. 1987 Accord LXI, 1990 VW Corrado, 1997 VW Jetta, and 2000 Passat. The all made noise at certain speeds and you had to keep a window cracked to stop it.

Does anybody know the MB part # for the wind deflector (hump) described in this thread? I have the exact same problems from 35-55mph. If I stick a couple of fingers up through the sunroof no more than an inch into the airstream on the front edge of the sunroof opening it completely goes away. I know you can crack a side window and it goes away but then you have a different noise to deal with.

I've been to dealers in Seattle and Portland, and they both say there is no separate part number. It is the way the roof is made now. If you replace the roof glass, you get the bump.

my roof has the hump, (they replaced it with an 03 roof) personally i cant stand the look of it, i prefer the smooth look i had before (plus everyone thinks its a 1.8L), as for the wind/reception, its not that much of a difference to me, definately not worth 269 dollars

Just got my '02 C230 retrofitted with both the new front glass with the hump and the new seat belt guides.
The hump on the glass makes the sunroof usable with the windows closed - and, it's not as large as the older glued on humps. It's now integrated into the glass frame.
The seatbelt guides make it a whole lot easier to get to the seatbelts and they can be pushed down out of the way to allow passengers into the back (this doesn't happen very often). Plus it keeps the seatbelt from rubbing on my neck - that's the best part!!
Oh, and my dealer did this all at no cost!!
