Those prices are great; I'd recommend sensors front and rear; in fact, at that price, I'd get 4. My rears had just one sensor, and the non-sensor side was metal-to-metal within a day of the sensor warning. If that pad had had a sensor, I wouldn't have needed new rotors this time.

Appreciate the input. I'll get four sensors then.

That would be good advice if there was a place to put the extra two sensors.

Remember, guys, the pads have a designated slot where the sensor goes in, so it's good if you would "want" 4 (I'm sure everybody would like that), but doesn't mean it'll function for you.

You're off if you're saying 21 cents, not counting everything.
Just operation costs, not including insurance, depreciation. Only including gasoline and maintenance costs.

Depreciation and insurance are too difficult to calculate.

$0.21 should be about right for a Honda.

Not really, take what you paid, subtract current value, divide by # of miles.
For me, I paid about 30K, it's now worth about 10K,
so 20K divided by 114K miles=17.5 cents a mile depreciation.
Insurance for me is about 1400 a year, so X 6 years, divided by 114K miles=
7.37 cents a mile. So, nearly 25 cents a mile just for depreciation and
insurance. Next expensive would have to be the new set of tires nearly every year.
95% of all my repairs were warranty, or my cost would be much higher.
Costs me average 17 cents a mile for gas based on 3.50 gas and 22 mpg average.
Thats not counting mods.....fuggetaboutit!

When the brake wear signal turns on, how do I know it's for front pads or rear?
My wife's 04.5 230k has 33k miles on it now and the warning signal is on. Do I need to change the rotor while getting the new pads? I think I will get sensors for all 4 corners, and just brake pads for both. What are my other options in terms of pads other than OEM?

Depreciation and insurance is on a case by case basis. My 27 cents/mile estimate is based on just maintenance and gasoline. Maintenance includes tires, oil changes, major service (at 60,000 and 100,000), and tires.

Why would I include depreciation and insurance in my 27 cent calculation if they were of no use to anyone else but me?

As I continue to research about brakes and rotors, here is what I've found with regards to your question.

1. There is only one brake wear sensor on the FRONT passenger side brake pad. So you only need ONE sensor. (contrary to what I was going to do above)

2. The rule of thumb is to replace the front rotors on the second front pad change.

3. Search for aftermarket pad options. There is a thread dedicated to just that.

Best of luck.
