you can only reset the service with this method on w211.. not w203

I also ran out to the car just now. You are right. It did not work. Thanks anyway.

Maybe I can't reset it until it's service B due? Now is Service B in 1200 miles.

If you get the oil filter from the dealer it comes with all 3 rings inside the box.

I've just recently done this DYI on my c230 and it took me a while to get the oil out the first time. Before the oil change my cluster said I was short 1 qt. So I took my time to let the oil settle on the bottom and pump. I did this repeatedly for about 45 min to make sure I got all the oil out. My dumba$$ didnt have the right tool either so that added more time trying to get the filter unscrewed.

This method is so much easier!! Thanks to this DYI guide.

after doing some search here and other mbz forums, i believe that using an oil extractor actually removes more oil and sediment than draining. you do it your way, we'll do it ours.

for the op, much props for the effort of doing this and contributing to the board.

Thank you for the kind words. You are so welcome.

drain vs. extract?

As long as you change your oil, either way is fine.

I have drained many times in my younger years. As of now using oil extractor is good enough for me.

cheers.....

The test has been conducted by johnand. Both methods removes the same amount of oil.

I haven't posted in a loooonng time. Thanks for the helpful DIY. I did the following last night:

-oil change using Mobil 1 0-40 synthetic
-Hengst oil filter
-Hengst air filter
-new charcoal in-cabin filter
-Mityvac fluid (dispenser and evacuator)

I also had a buddy do an alignment with the 19s. Bought all the parts from buymbparts.com and it was shipped to my house in two days. Got the Mityvac
from tooltopia.com. It was under $70 shipped. I had a really good buying experience from both sites -- fast shipping and lowest prices I could find.

Can't wait to do this again

Use the odometer / trip menu, turn the ignition on, do not start, cycle though the sub-menus, there is a level check option. The vehicle must be warm and have sat long enough or it doesn't work.

My wife would agree.

Yes, the vehicle MUST have sat long enough and it SHOULD be warm.

You're welcome for the menu sequence.

Well like I tell my girl, it takes one to know one. And in your case, she married you, so cookoo cookoo lol... Anyways, yeah thanks for the advice, took a 10 mile round trip earlier to the bank and back.. car sat for about 5 maybe 6 minutes and I tried to cycle through and find a level. NOTHING! Maybe it's a user error but I'm quite confident I can read and I'm following directions properly.. so who knows! Maybe I've got a dipstick, I'll look tomorrow!

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I'm going to give this a shot this weekend. I hope to find the oil and filter from Autozone or Discount Autoparts.

If you check your manual, it will show you what's the recommended oil to use.

Has anyone done their oil change without the extractor? I'm used to doing it by draining the oil via the drain plug..but after reading this thread, apparently their is a plastic shield that needs removing to access the oil drain plug?

Any insight on this would be helpful. Thanks!

Like everything else on this car, you would have to remove a plastic shield to get to anything underneath the chassis. They're easy to remove.

I'm suprised no one has said this; you should really be torquing the fliter back to spec, so that you don't overtighten, like someone else did above. Yes, you'll need to buy a torque wrench, but you should have one anyway for your lugbolts.

I've been doing the topsider way for years now. I have no idea other than stubbornness why you'd go the old-fashioned way on these cars.

a quarter mile at a time
BTW - the 2006+ M272 cars do NOT display the oil level in the computer menu.
