DONE
I've just recently done this DYI on my c230 and it took me a while to get the oil out the first time. Before the oil change my cluster said I was short 1 qt. So I took my time to let the oil settle on the bottom and pump. I did this repeatedly for about 45 min to make sure I got all the oil out. My dumba$$ didnt have the right tool either so that added more time trying to get the filter unscrewed.
This method is so much easier!! Thanks to this DYI guide.
for the op, much props for the effort of doing this and contributing to the board.

drain vs. extract?
As long as you change your oil, either way is fine.
I have drained many times in my younger years. As of now using oil extractor is good enough for me.
cheers.....
-oil change using Mobil 1 0-40 synthetic
-Hengst oil filter
-Hengst air filter
-new charcoal in-cabin filter
-Mityvac fluid (dispenser and evacuator)
I also had a buddy do an alignment with the 19s. Bought all the parts from buymbparts.com and it was shipped to my house in two days. Got the Mityvac
from tooltopia.com. It was under $70 shipped. I had a really good buying experience from both sites -- fast shipping and lowest prices I could find.
Can't wait to do this again

three fast clicks of the reset button gets me into bat volt., soft vers., etc. but i cant find the darn fluid level
lol... Anyways, yeah thanks for the advice, took a 10 mile round trip earlier to the bank and back.. car sat for about 5 maybe 6 minutes and I tried to cycle through and find a level. NOTHING! Maybe it's a user error but I'm quite confident I can read and I'm following directions properly.. so who knows!
Maybe I've got a dipstick, I'll look tomorrow!

Any insight on this would be helpful. Thanks!
I'm suprised no one has said this; you should really be torquing the fliter back to spec, so that you don't overtighten, like someone else did above. Yes, you'll need to buy a torque wrench, but you should have one anyway for your lugbolts.
I've been doing the topsider way for years now. I have no idea other than stubbornness why you'd go the old-fashioned way on these cars.
