Question Clogged rain/drain gutters under hood/wiper blades

When you open the hood and look at where the wiper arms attach, the plastic panel that runs across that area of the car has a set of holes that drain water. Well, mine aren't working... probably clogged up with leaves and crap from being parked outside all the time.

Are there any solutions to reaming those little holes out? I searched the forum, but couldn't find any posts devoted to this arcane but important topic. I'd rather save $200 than have the dealer do it.

Thanks,

J

Good idea! I hope the stuff in there isn't too thick.

make it a priority to flush that stuff out. all that muck will retain moisture and will eventually rust from the inside out and more moiture blockage will lead rain water to flow inside the cabin.. also clear the weep holes on all the doors too.

I searched the forum and can't find a thread on drain holes. Maybe someone could start documenting all the drains on our cars??

Given my lack of an air compressor, I'm going to stop by my local mechanic next week. He said that these things can be a real pain to clear out, depending on things. So, I've got my fingers crossed. It's funny how I hear sloshing in the car after a rain, but it's gone after a few days.

Thanks,

J

I agree with cleaning them out whenever they get clogged, but the holes (under the windshield at least) are plastic/rubber lined. So are the collector trays. Not exactly rust-causing stuff. Out by the hood hinges though... different story.

jakeman - yep. get that taken care of.. you can use air in the can at any computer store. also open the front door and inspect the inside front fender. you can get a wire coat hanger and poke under the weep holes and flush with water on the cowl..

I clean mine every day....once you get them clean....make a point of keeping the crap out.
