No sound from the Radio..after a few days it works now..WTH?

Hey Guys..I've searched but doesn't seem that anyone had encountered this.

I have an 05 c230 and over the weekend there was no sound coming from the radio. Visually, it looks like everything is working on the radio. Every button works just no sound when I adjust the volume. I did notice that I lost the "surround" option in the sound settings. I tried banging lightly on the radio just to see if that would readjust something but no go. Tried the mute/unmute botton but no go there either. So I just left it alone and was just gonna take it to the dealer today. Then this morning I start the car and now there's sound. My "surround" option came back. Obviously now that it's working, there's no point taking it to the dealer. So I'm hoping maybe someone else here have seen this before. I take it I will need a new radio? Or is there something else on the car that might have contributed to it? TIA..

You must have a Harmon Kardon. Do a search on "Harmon Kardon" or "Harmon Kardon problems" on the W203 threads. This has been a problem for others including myself. Knock on wood....it has happened in awhile. Car is 2 years old and it happened about 4 times during that period.

Thanks for the tip and info. No wonder I couldn't find anything. I was searching for "radio" to be more broad. But ya I have a Harmon Kardon. Sucks to hear that on our systems. I guess I'll be searching away to find more info. Thanks again!

It seems from reading around the threads that the stereo has a fairly good chance of just coming back to (relative) working order on its own.

Would that be everyone else's observation as well?

Really goddamn annoying though.

I could be totally wrong, but it might be a fuse.

I had it happen to me three times, and the sound always was back a day later. When I brought it to the dealership one time I told them about the problem. They could not mimic the problem so they replaced a little fuse if I am correct. Ever since the problem never came back. It has been over 2 years now.

*knock on wood*

There's another thread on this, but it seems like it's something that's happening more and more =/

I went to a indy with a star computer, my car stored no codes =/
So they cleared it all for me, and told me that if it happens again, go straight to the dealer and get it checked, and file something to show that you've had a complaint against this.

So take it to the dealer.

I totally forgot about this thread I started. I updated other threads but not my own . Anyway here's the scoop on mine. Initially the amp was replaced by the dealer under warranty. Was a complete waste cause a few months later, it did it again. And to top it off the sub grill rattling got worse while it was working. So I tried searching again and found a more current post saying it could be a fuse. Turns out, that's what it was. Loose fuse in the driver side fuse bay. I believe it was a 25amp fuse. I just took it out, put it back in and it started working again. Made sure it was securely in there. It's been well over a year and a half and it hasn't happened since.

I'll check it out tomorrow whenI have some free time. I hope it's just a loose fuse.

btw, the sound came back when I was getting ready to drive home from work.

Thanks

Happened to me about 6 times in the 4 years I have owed. I will check the fuse when it happens again.
