2006 C280 suddenly lose audio system
The audio system work fine on the road when I sent my daughter for piano class. One hour later, when I start the car, then audio system has gone.
There has radio station (FM 101.3) or CD track info, but no sound. Also, when I select CDC, it says no CDC. I try to adjust the volume, nothing happens. The switch on/off button works fine though. Any idea?
Funny thing happen. At this morning in my garage, I start the car and prepare to go to the dealer. But teh audio system come back as normal and like nothing happens. Tonight I will take a test and park the car out of garage, and then start at tomorrow morning, if the problem happens, then I can know the issue is related to temperature.
Regards.
How do you make the dealer believe that this happen when you arrive the dealer and the radio work fine at dealer lot? Also, AMP means amplifier? Does the dealer replace it for you? cost?
Rigorod01:
How about yours? Is it solved, or not happen again?
Regards.
I also am not 100% sure - But I read in some posts that the head liner (YIKES!) needs to come down to replace this AMP...if this is true - I am not sure why the great engineers at Mercedes-Benz did it that way...
However if you need to pull it down, you may want to look into installing IMS parts...If I had a good answer and knew about the issue (actual problem) I would have requested the IMS parts installed - IF - The headliner was pulled...I hope it was not...
Good luck,
Jake

HK Amp's in the boot, so no clue what they would be doing with your headliner. Most common problem when you have no sound and your changer disappears is a loose or faulty fiber optic cable.

Here is what I read (One post) on the head liner from the wonderful web...
"alright so i recently got my car tinted...after tint..radio sucked bad and keyless entry only worked when ontop of the IR sensor and only within a handful of times actually worked. talked to the tint place..apparently they put metal tint on, so i had them remove it and before they put non-metallic tint we checked everything..nothing works still. so i took it to mercedes today and they said that the antenna amplifier somehow got shorted or the glue from the tint messed it up, but they also said that if they push on the headliner the right way that they can get the radio reception to be perfect and the remote to work fine but suggested it be replaced at a very cheap cost of 1350$. oh and i forgot to add that i did illegal 15% tint so therefore have no documentation of the tint job being done because here they won't give u a receipt and u have to pay in cash. well the nice people at the tint company won't pay for it and i obvioulsy can't sue. so i'm left with how can i fix it myself somehow. obvioulsy the connectors might be messed up a little but if they can get it to work perfectly fine with pushing its not completely fried to the point of 1350$ they just want to screw me. so i'm wondering if there is anything i can do, maybe a specific place to push or perhaps a fuse that might help if replaced? any sort of thoughts on the issue would be awesome! its also a 2005 C230 kompressor..figure that would help HA thanks!"
"so i tried messing with the headliner finally and when i pushed in the upper left corner where they told me..i didn't get the radio reception or the remote reception they said they noticed..i even pushed on the sensor itself because a hand can fit behind it easily without breaking the plastic peices that have to be removed to bring down the headliner...hopefully mercedes didn't purposely sortof make it less activating so that i would need to have it replaced instead of just being able to fix it...the replacement ant. amp. is about 400$ and somehow that merits 900$ worth of labor? insane i wonder if i could just snag one off a c230 that got wrecked or something."
Thanks all - Let's try to clear this one up - and the location of the AMP, antenna, connections etc...and it maybe here on mbworld - just need to STF.

I check the papers, and my car has
320: Entainment Package which include
810: Harman Kardon Sound System
819: 6-Disc CD changer.
Symptom:
1): Audio Display is on.
2): Radio Station Info is on, but no sound.
3): CD track info is on and going forward, but no sound.
4): CDC can not be detected.

The other amp you are talking about from the post is the Antenna Amp - it takes a signal from the cars aerials and amplifies it, and sends this amplified signal to the radio tuner.
This amp is located under the headliner above the rear window in a C class, and working on / replacing it would require removing the headliner. A symptom of the failure of this amp is very bad / no reception on the radio.
The physical antenna is up there as well, but different depending on options installed. Connections is kinda a hard question to answer in a car with a couple of miles of wire, and a few feet of fiber - so I'm not sure what you are looking for here?

This is the info I have...
Found faulty sound amplifier
SDS test. Code D101. Tested audio circuit and traced to faulty sound amplifier. Replaced amplifier. Cleared fault code. Retest. Operation OK.
Parts
1 x 169-820-80-89
Thanks,
Jake

. After a little forum search and some exploring on the car i found the solution so in case this happens to anyone try this first. in the drivers side fuse compartment take out fuse 26 it should be 25A and white. I took it out inspected it and it seemed fine plugged it back and the audio came back immediately

Which one is easier - Unpluging the fuse 26 or fiber optical cable?
Also, based on my observation, my kids sit at passenger side and press music buttons one after another (for button A and B) very fast such that the fuction of button A does not happen yet and button B has pressed. Then no sound. I'm not sure these have directly related though.
