Color of Antifreeze

I just bought a 2005 c230 that looks like it has a blue-green color antifreeze - I thought that these all came from the factory with an orange-yellow color antifreeze that is supposed to last for 100k miles. Am I correct on this? My concern is someone changed the antifreeze and didn't use the right fluid. Thanks for any help.

Yeah, the correct MB antifreeze is sort of a pale orange-yellow. If yours looks like the fluorescent green of readily available antifreeze, the previous owner probably flushed the antifreeze. If the previous owner didn't know better, it probably seemed like the right thing to do. But, you should flush that out and put in MB approved stuff (I got mine from the dealer for like $20/gallon), so that your antifreeze doesn't corrode your aluminum radiator parts.

My car came from the factory with blue antifreeze. Fluorescent green is the incorrect antifreeze because it is not long life with the proper additives for an aluminum block/head engine.

It seems like it is more bluish than green. So it sounds like there is a chance it might be the factory antifreeze? What year was your car (that came with blue antifreeze)?

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
My car came with Blue color.
Used Xerex G05 I think it's called, last time, which is yellow.
It says it meet the standard.

Newer mercedes supposedly have coolant that stays good for 150K mile or
something? I do mine every 50K.
DIY?
Remove bottom cover, open petcock, catch fluid.
Replace.
That leaves a small amount in the engine, but not much.

Mix coollant 50 50 with DISTILLED water.
2002 C230 only needs 1 bottle of coolant, only hold about 2 gallons.
Fill. Start engine with open cover on water tank.
Let run till hot, turn off, let sit for a minute, top off.
Wait for thermostat to open. Water level will drop.
Put cap on.
Drive for a mile or 3, and check again. Top off.
If it's low the light on the dash will tell you.
All should be well.

+ 1 on what C230 Sport Coupe says.

The engine does not have anything that needs superflorous (sp?) protection. Best bet is the distilled water mixed in.

So it sounds like there is a blue coolant that is provided by MB from the factory, but the two members that stated this have 2001 and 2002 models. Does that mean that 2003 and newer have only the yellow/orange coolant from the factory?

As is frequently the case, C230 Sport Coup & emrliquidlife are correct.

Don't take their word for it...here is what StarTuned has to say about it..link

No way Splinter. We gave input, you gave the bible. Nice find. I read the whole thing and enjoyed it immensly.

If our interval is to be 150k, I advise against that. I know my antifreeze was changed at 96k, and again, at about 140k. My change at 140k brought out quite a bit of rust type sediment. So, I would say that a change every 50k is desirable. Specially for us guys that will drive the car into the ground.
