should i get spacers?

i was just thinkin of d previous thread i posted re. spacers, with my rear 225/40r18s, i logically need 15mm spacers to make it look like a 255 rear tire.

What do u guys think??? i know putting them on would make my sides more aggressive, make the rear tire "flush" with the wheel arch opening. HOWEVER, im concerned that it might make the car look "Awkward" when viewed from the rear coz my wheels are flush on the sides like a 255, but my tires arent that Wide....

Any opinions? Have any one of u done this mod? Thanks.

I think the car already looks awkward when viewed from the rear. The rear wheels are tucked in far too much and the rear fender flares look like big ears.

Get the spacers!

i agree with Buell.

btw, i notice how Bimmers have wider track at the rear, but MBs often have wider track up front. i.e. compare M3 and C32.

yeah...ive been lukin at my car several times since yesterday...my fronts r flush..but my rear is really tucked in!

hey buell....u have spacers on ur coupe right???? how many mm are they? and what size tires ru using? h&r lists that the wheel bolts should b extended "half" of the spacer's thickness...so does that mean.....7.5mm longer wheel bolts for 15mm spacers???????????????

i cant afford to make a mistake on this, coz im halfway round d globe and ive got 2buy the spacers there in the U.S., so its gonna be pricey freightwise if i make a mistake with these 15mm spacers.....helpppppppppp me guys!

I used 20mm H&R spacers on my C230. You will need bolts that are longer by the size of spacer you get. With 20mm spacers I got bolts that were 20mm longer.

You should contact H&R. I believe they offer both the spacers and the bolts. Just tell them what spacer you need and they should be able to tell you what bolts you need.

Also, you should get the correct bolts for the type of wheel that you have.

I have 10mm spacers because Linh wanted 15mm so I got his old ones. If I was buying them new I would probably also get 15mm. I have the standard wheels/tires. Someday I'll get new wheels.

lhoang,

I like that fit. Where exactly does it rub? Did you have the fenders rolled?

it rubbed on the top of the outer sidewall , i tried rolling my fenders with a bsaeball bat, but it only moved a little, very little. i wouldn't suggest doing this, only if you know how to do it.

you can kinda guess how, put the handle side of the bat in the fender between the tire and push up and roll. maybe i should have used some heat, i think that would have helped a bunch, but didn't want to cause damage or an unequal shape. oh well, that was about a year ago and 3 sets of wheels later. i'm happy with my current set.

well thanks to Buell's mind trick I'm getting 15mm H&R spacers on 235/40/17s in the rear. I'll let everyone know how it goes. autoclass.net seems pretty nice...they said if it doesnt work out they'll trade me for 20mm etc.

Thanks for all your help ppl!!!!!!!!!

Umm i also plan to order from Autoclass, so presumably, theyll know what kind of bolts i need right???

i think ill try 15mm first for an equivalent of a 255mm tire look.

if ill take 20mm...then that equates to a 265mm lukin tire, right?

Anyway.....if i make a mistake on this..........DHL or FedEx 's gonna ripp me off with roundtrip freight charges halfway round d globe from the Phils to U.S. hehehe

Hey Lhoang, since uve tried putting on rear wheel spacers on 225 tires?? dont they look weird??? wen viewd frm the rear on those skinny tires? I am still quite confused whether to put spacers or not.

I dont plan to lower my car, and "fender rolling" is "UNKNOWN" in my country. So those 15mm spacers better b good!

if ur running 225, go with a 20mm spacer. and 20mm plus on your bolts that you are currently using.

if u do not go with this, i think you will be deeply disappointed. i know its only 5mm, but your puting on a spacer anyways. spend the money once and spend it wisely. i have had 3 set of spacers and have spent money more than once. i am just trying to give u my knowledge and not allow u to make a mistake.

another way to look at it the 20mm is thicker, so more durable. either or they will both be safe.

Kumusta Bruno

Are you the same Bruno with a RF door lock problem?
If so, hope that went well.

Anyway you can put a net of 265 in the rear well, that is about it.
So you can choose either 15 or 20mm on your 225s. You are right with skinny tires (225) you might not want to "overdo" it, so 15 might actually look better, though less extreme than 20.

15 is an absolutely sure thing for fit.

OOPS forgot.

Whatever your spacer is add the SAME to the bolt, (not 1/2).
Use H&R bolts they are same quality as stock MB.

I looked at my car to see if I would want spacers. The front tires sit out a lot further than the rears. Are you guys talking about doing all 4 wheels or just the rears? I know the rears definitely need it, but I don't know about the fronts.
