Exclamation Problems on Cold Start

I've noticed that in the cold weather when I start my car up for the first time that morning I sometimes get a really hard rumble from the engine that makes my whole car shake. Eventually after it goes under 1,000 Rpm's it starts running smooth again, however if I put it in reverse to back out of the garage right after a cold start (approx. 10 seconds after start) my car jerks back and forth and releases black smoke from the exhaust. Anyone have any ideas why this could be happing.....I did have my cylinder head and other engine components replaced last year around this time and it hasnt been the same since then. I have a 2004.5 C230 with about 45,000 miles on it.

similar issue, but not quite

the other night I started my car and got out to let it warm up, and this is when I noticed a rumbling sound. It stopped after like 2 minutes. But I don't think my car has had the vibration issue your having. I gotta get out of this cold weather! lol

Just a thought ... have you had that troublesome hose replaced yet - the 'partial crankcase ventilation' hose I believe? Could be the start of that thing beginning to crack. I mention it because when my hose was cracked/leaking I heard a loud rumble type noise when I shut down the car, and it had a wanderng idle. I was also getting the CEL, with codes P0301 thru P0304 on occassion too.

I had my check engine light go on yesterday while warming my car up to go to work. First time its been on since they had to change my cylinder head last year around this time. Funny thing is though, I went to a friends house later that night and left my car there. Came back about 7 hours later at 4 in the morning and my car was in the cold all night (its garaged all the time) and when I turned on my car the CEL was off. I'm wondering if this might have something to do with that hose you're talking about. Oh and it still has a rough idle at time when starting my car up after not driving it for a day or two.

Will do. I'm going to call and make an appointment with them tommorow for tuesday since it's going to be my only day off this week. I can't wait to hear what kind of B.S. they're going to tell me after probably waiting 3 hours there. There probably going to play it off like its nothing serious because my car is almost out of the free 4 year maintainence and they're not going to want to do anything for free.

So I ended up taking my car in on Tuesday telling them what had happened. They looked at it and keeping in mind that its probably going to be that partial vent hose I waited for an answer. About 2 hours later my service advisor comes in and says that they're going to change an 02 sensor and in the back of my mind im like ughh, again, this is what they kept changing last time and they ended up changing the whole cylinder head at the end. But then he says we're also going to change a hose that connects the supercharger to the manifold, and I just ask, "the partial load vent hose" he looks at his write up and he says.....Yea? So im relieved now that they're going to replace that hose and after another 4 hours im ready to go. So eventhough I waited there for 6 hours to get my car fixed, my car ran like a champ. I honestly think that ever since last year around this time when I had my cars cylinder head replaced it was actually just this hose. My car hasn't ran like this in a while. Im just like now.
