C320 Sports Coupe

If you read German, you can go to the German MB page and configure a C320 Sports Coupe. Base price 33,350 Euros.

That ($33.6K base) seems too high to sell the car in the US.

MWSt

Don't forget that the Deutsche Mehrwertsteuer (MWSt), or value-added tax is included in German retail prices. The MWSt is currently running at 16%.

The real price for comparative purposes is 28750 Euro. Or about $29K US.

M-B Canada sells the C-Class at well under the German tax-free prices, by the way.

P.S. There is an umlaut in Fahrvergnügen

$29K would seem about right.

I know, I wish I could figure out how to do the umlaut on the photo-editing system on my computer! Would give my sig a little more flair!

$29k is very reasonable for a 320 engine car. i can't read german, but is the standard equipment also upgraded like the sedans' 320 from the 240?

Well, the next best thing is to put an "e" after the "u". That's essentially what an umlaut means.

i.e. Fahrvergnuegen

Hmm, that may be technically more correct (I don't know much German), but to my US eyes, it looks better without the extra "e."

Gotta do the best I can with my limited computer skills!

I haven't looked at the German .pdf pricelist yet, but if it's anything like the 320 sedans were last year, even the 320 comes with cloth seats, no rear sidebags, no garage door opener, no self-dimming mirrors and a few other standard features in N. America are missing. What is upgraded, if you can call it that, is the climate control, which is Thermatic as opposed to the EU-standard manual A/C system.

Do not despair; MBUSA may, and M-B Canada certainly will, include these "options" and keep the base price the same or lower than it is in Europe.

why don't you just put two dots on top of the "u" using your photo editor. BTW i hope you're not using some crap like MS Paint.

My guess is that for the US, the C320 Coupe will have the MB-Tex/leather seats, the fancier C320 Sedan climate control and Bose audio as standard equipment. This would be keeping in line with the usual levels of upgrade here. My guess is that they'll price it just under $30K.

I wonder if it will be called a C320 in the US. I can see it having a different name to avoid being confused with the sedan.

Cheers, BT

i think $33k is just about right for the C320 coupe since the C320 sedan is $10k more.

I wonder what will the standard alloy rims on the C320 coupe will look like?

it looks like they'll call it the C320 sportcoupe (but don't hold me to that guess). i don't think people will get too confused.

I know that models available elsewhere in the world have shared the same name, but historically in the US it seems as if they've tried to avoid that.

Is this car even available to order yet in the US?

you think they may call it a C230 with 3.2 badging on it in order to cause confusion between the sedan. kinda like a 190E 2.6 and a 260E, etc.

I had wondered this as well, due to the 1.8 badges materializing on the new C230Ks.

Most (windows) photoediting programs with a text-entry utility understand the extended-ASCII codes; you can usually get one by holding the ALT key and typing '0252' on the NUMBER PAD, then releasing ALT.

Depending on the font you use, of course, your mileage may vary.

For a guess at the price increment, it's informative to compare the SLK 230K to the SLK 320. The difference in the Canadian base price is Cdn$6,000 but the 320 includes power seats and an adjustable steering column. These two options add about Cdn$1,700 to the 230, so the difference for the engine alone is about Cdn$4,300.

I agree that the C320 coupe is likely to include a couple of the 230's options in the base price, so somewhere in the vicinity of US$29,500 looks right. Power and torque will be modestly up and NVH will be significantly down. A pulley kit on a 2.3 coupe looks a lot cheaper.

I wrote to MBUSA.COM last week, and got this evasive response:

"Dear Mr. Schrader,

Thank you for your recent internet inquiry.

While definitive information for a new engine in the C Coupe is not available
at this time, we would encourage you to periodically check our website. This
would be the best source for news on all our models, and can be accessed at
www.mbusa.com

If we can be of any further assistance, please feel free to e-mail us again or
call us at
1-800-FOR-MERCedes (1-800-367-6372)."

The MBUSA web site is the last place to get the latest correct information.
