Cam sensor upgrade questions
Looking at doing the cam sensor upgrade myself on the wifes 05 C230 Komp...
What are the part numbers for the extenders and everything else I need.. Want to ensure we dont have any issues later.
Car is going in for the PCV and lower hose recall friday.. Glad that came up.
Thanks!!

My car is in the shop now. Both cam sensors are leaking. The tech took off lower plastic covers to check O2 sensor connectors and found my oil level sensor leaking oil as well. So, I guess I get a free oil change to boot! All under warranty (185 miles left on it).

I have an '03. Checked my sensor connectors ~6 months ago (~50K miles) and they were dry as a bone. Checked them again this weekend (~55k miles) and they are a little oily now.
I was planning on making an appointment for the hose recall. Is the fix for this cam sensor problem covered (I'm out of warranty) on an '03, or will I have to pay for this (in which case I'll buy the parts and do it myself)?
I'd like to be informed when I talk to the SA ...

That being said, it's a no-brainer. Spend close to $100 now, or up to $3700 later.
Seems that almost everyone who's checked has some amount of oil on the connectors. Just be certain that you catch it BEFORE it gets to your wiring harness & ECUs. (Been there)

How do I check which engine build I have? And can anyone tell me which engine build MB will take care of? From earlier in the thread, sounds like if we have a certain engine build they will take care of it? maybe I'm just being wishful ...

Well it finally happened to my Fiance's m111 2002--- this issue
originally the car started idling real weired on startup just reving over and over by itself--checked it with the OBD II and said it was the throttle/Gass peda circuit A-wiggled the wire on the gas pedal and it didn't happen again-- however!!!!
I started the car up again and it started idling funny and heard a few UNACCEPTABLE noises TAP..... TAP shaking violently--it then threw a code for the CAM positioning sensor-- looked halfway down the head and noticed not only was the tripple wire pigtail oily, but the connector itself was busted--
then I looked on the front of the head at the other sensor/leaky selenoid
Looks like the TSB jumper wire used/added---center of selinoid it plugged into was gooped up by previous owner -- but regardless it is still leaking onto the electronics
so off to the stealership to buy new parts--hopfully the TAP ing noise was not the valves slapping the pistons, If it is I will be really really Pissed
any comments please add them

Sorry for being so dumb -- but does this affect Coupes?
I am a month out of my four year warranty with extended Mercury warranty... why wouldn't they fix this for free?
I only have 26k miles on my 04 Coupe, btw.
Sorry if I misread this thread, just seems like an alarming problem.
Sorry also that I have no idea what a "cam" is.

It will affect all sedans/coupes with the M271 motor. Has been a constant problem on my coupe which is one of the reasons I'm trading it in.

jo17jC230 - you've replaced the sensors with new ones and the new ones leaked too? How many miles/how long before the new ones leaked, if so? Thanks.

I'm not sure if it was replaced with the news ones... but I've had the car in twice already and its still leaking... my car is now out of warranty and I dont want to deal with the problem so I decided to just get rid of the car.

OK since I MAY HAVE OVERLOOKED A PREVIOUS POSTING ON THIS DON'T SHOOT ME.......
i AM A LITTLE PISSED THOUGH LOOK AT THE PICTURES BELOW TO SEE MY FRUSTRATION
does anyone know if there is a gasket for the new cam sensor,(not the middle oring but the entire piece?) or is it a goop job? it doesn't make sense that it just fits there without one-- I thought this would be an easy swap but the previous dr.dip***** forced a piece over the end of the cam--the metal is shaved off in that spot
I also had to replace the wiring harness pig tail that was very brittle and no surprize it was oil filled as well---

just looked at mine today, 2002 coupe m111 ~60k miles. everthing looked ok. a little residual oil around the sensor to engine but nothing than the usual engine dirt.
Mine connector/wire harness coming off the sensor is routed up and over the senor housing, wondering if that is the same as everyone else. with this routing I can't see how oil could be forced up and into the wire bundle.
I can see if it was route downward and oil was gravity feed into the bundle.
