k Thursday, I took off so I can fix my car. I have the same problem as everyone here. I just bought to parts for my car Isolating wires and new cam aduster sensors. Oh ya, and some electrical contact cleaner. Wish me luck.
This costed e 140 bucks for the parts. Another shop wanted to charge me 2k to fix so lets see how this goes. Yes the wanted me to replace alllll of the sensors which I dont think I need but will see.

replace cam sensors
add isolation wires
clean all connectors with electrical contact cleaner
If problems persist:
replace O2 sensors
replace engine harness
If problems persist after that:
cry
replace MAF
replace ECU

Checked all the harness and it doesn't seem to be that bad, after deleting the fault the CEL didn't come back for another hour, Hopefully (fingers crossed) i will clean all the electrical connections with electrical cleaner, use the air line to blow any loose crap out of any part of the harness i can see, fit the new CAM sensor and isolation wires and the light won't come back.
I'm putting bets on that harness costing a LOT of money and its a ***** to fit too, I hope I can save it in time.

Found a little oil in my connectors on the ECU, sprayed electrical cleaner in there and made sure it was well flushed out. I installed the Cam sensors and the isolation wires and also cleaned off the connectors on my O2 sensor. So far the light hasn't come back on yet, I won't be counting my chickens just yet though. If its still out on monday morning I will be happy.

Another person that fixed it without spending $2K! Dealers suck. Mercedes sucks more for such an inferior product.

So mercedes of South Orlando charged me a total of 205 for:
2 Cam sensors,
2 isolation wires
2 rubber covers
2 rubber washers (15$ a piece for a .25 part)
I am returning the parts tomorrow and ordering them from trademotion at about half the price!
My exactly does the wires from the the cam sensor lead to on the ECU? Can someone point it out in the picture?

2003 C230 kompressor sport (coupe)
Can anyone explain what role the expansion plugs play, and if they are necessary when replacing the cam sensors and adding the isolation wires? Also, when I purchased the new cams & wires, nothing was mentioned about seal rings. If anyone has some info or detailed pics for thease parts, it would be greatly appreciated, as I intend to replace thease parts myself in the next few days. 03 C230 K sc 56,500k

MB001 If you look at page 2 of this thread from HeirKranz he has pictures. The plug essentially goes where the center of cam sensor is, because when you get them they are not covered and exposed, actually its just hole that needs to be plugged up.
The cam seals are rubber o rings that go on the engine, there is groove that you place them in before screwing back on the cam magnet sensors.
Yes you will need both of those, some may reuse seals and gaskets but I am in the school of always replacing them even if they look new.
Its a very easy fix. The only thing difficult for me was finding the right sized reverse torx socket.

Thanks Richardlo for the info. For some reason I was picturing something else w/the extensions, but when I looked under the hood and re-read thease threads it finally hit me! I have to go back to the dealer this week because they only had one iso wire in stock and had to order the other one for me. Hopefully they have the rings and extensions so I can take care of this asap.

cam sensor adapter wires
Hi,
I just bought a used 2004 C230K Sports Sedan; I am reading this thread and am wondering if I should also have these wires installed. I talked to the SA at the dealer about it, and he was unsure - he asked me to send him whatever information I have so he can clarify.
I tried finding the part number in EPCnet; which is where my question lies. When I search for the part number A2711502733, I'm getting one hit under 271948 M271 KE18 ML/1; 271.948; 54 Engine Cable Harnesses; 120 Engine Cable Harness. See attached screenshot (875wiringharness.JPG). I assume that people are talking about getting part #875 in that picture, correct?
However, when I enter my VIN and find the engine harness, I'm not getting the same schematics. See attached screenshot (80wiringharness.JPG). It displays 203040 C230 Kompressor; 203.040; 54 Electrical Equipment and Instruments; 121 Engine Cable Harness; Body Mounted.
There doesn't seem to be an equivalent part, except maybe part #80 (circled in red).
Does anybody know if part #80 is the recommended wiring extension/isolating cable; adapter line that can reduce the impact of a cam sensor oil leak? Or does it just not apply to my engine, based on VIN?
Thanks!
Update: Shortly after posting, I noticed that the schematics said "OM611/OM612" --- which is a Diesel engine! In addition, the drop-down options includes items such as "pre-glow relay" which look suspiciously like they belong to a Diesel...) At this point, I suspected a glitch in the EPCnet application.
In fact, when I double-clicked on the entry on the left with part #80, the schematics changed (shown in screenshot 80wiringharness_after_doubleclick.jpg)) and it now correctly lists M111/112/113/271. So, my question is whether part #80 is the part I recommend my dealer install?

Unless you have no problem with shellin out about 4Gs, I would suggest replacing the cam senors and adding isolation wires. The first thing that you need to do is check to see if the iso wires have already been installed on your car. If not, check to see how much damage your car has from the oil leaking. (You will have some leakage from the cam sensors if you have over 50k on the car) There are plenty of in-detail pics and accurate part numbers on thease threads, so I would just read from page one and make a copy of the parts and numbers that you need and bring it to the parts desk at the MB dealer. They should know what your talking about. The SA you spoke with must be fairly new and unexperienced with this matter, or he might just be a tubesteak.

damn, I'm retarded and didn't even read this thread until now.
my cam sensors (with the corresponding rings) were changed by the dealership on Sat. (for $175). they didn't put in isolation wires, but they did check the MAF and ME for contamination and didn't find any.
my car has 67k miles on it and it apparently only started leaking a couple months ago.

OK guys, I got all the parts today and was able to replace the pigtails with ease but I was not able to remove the CAM sensors to replace because I don't have the right tool. I bought a set of E sockets E8, E10, E12, etc.. These are the reverse Torx set but I tried the E8 and it doesn't fit. I can almost swear that an E9 would probably fit and of course the E10 was used to remove the plastic cover which is bigger.
What size are you guys using or did you have to buy this at MB or something?
Thanks..

'04 Mars Red C230K Sport Coupe (not Coup-EH)
Just for reference: I checked both of the 230s this weekend (04 230 sedan with 60k miles, 04 230 coupe with 65k miles).
The sedan had squeaky-clean connectors; the coupe, however, had a little bit of oil on them. I've put in the pigtails on the coupe, and I have a pair for the sedan on backorder. I'm going to take apart the sensors to replace the O-rings next week; hopefully that will keep the seepage down.

Thanks everyone for your input - these forums are invaluable! I have a 2005 C230 and using your tutorials on here I checked my cam sensors today. The right one was dry, but I stuck my finger in the left one and I pulled it back out covered in oil. It appears to have just started because the wires didn't have the oil on them yet. I will be taking it in to the dealer immediately, as my warranty is up at the end of February.
I do have a question, though. Will the dealer give me a hard time for checking this myself - and will they be willing to fix it since it has no outward signs of failure?

Sorry to disagree, but I would consider oil leaking into the harness an "outward sign of failure".

I guess you're right, I just wonder if I'm going to run into an issue getting them to fix it. I've had Hondas and Acuras most recently and the service experiences have left me with an extreme distrust of dealerships. I just don't want to be given a hard time.
