Has This Ever Happened To You ?

I went away for the weekend (3 days). Left the car in the garage, doors shut, all the lights off, keys in my pocket. It was unusually warm, approx 40 degrees here where I live. I come home, hop in my car and it will not start, wouldn't turnover. I wanted to spit...the car doesn't even have 8,000 miles ! Finally, af I got it to turn over and it acted like it was just going to die. Shaking especially when idling at stop lights. Check Engine light was on but everything else was normal. It was awful. I drive it around for a mile to warm up to see if it would improve, it didn't. I came home and parked the car with the nose out thinking...I'm going to call MB to come and tow this mess tomorrow. I turned the car off, removed the key and reached into my glovebox for the manual. Just before exiting, although it killed me to do it, I decided to start it up again.....and it did! Like nothing was wrong at all and I haven't had a problem since.

I'm saying to my self Has this ever happened to any of you? I'm ready to trade it in!!!

You had one problem with your engine running, which went away on its own without hassle, and you're ready to trade the car in? Good luck with that.

Frusterating, yes. You just paid a bunch of money for a brand new car, it shouldnt be showing any problems at this point.

But parts fail prematurely, it happens. Your car has warranty. Your check engine light came on, which means the error code was recorded in your cars computer. Take it to the dealership and tell them about it. They will hook up their computer and be able to see what the code was. Tell them to tell you the code. Even if its working properly now, it would be best to get them to look at it, so if it happens again, you know if its related.

For all you know, the code might say that one of your spark plugs is loose, and they might check and see that it is, and then voila, problem solved. (Probably NOT the case but just my example).

Take it in just so that they're aware of the problem.

The same thing happened to me when after I came back from a 7 day trip overseas. My car was locked in the garage with the car's lights all turned off. When I came back and started the car, the engined seemed like it was about to die, and when I started driving it, it felt like the engine was going to stall at any moment. My plan was to call up MB's roadside assistance and see what they could do. When I turned off the engine and started it again, it was as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. The temperature in the garage probably dipped into the high 20s or low 30s when I was away on my trip.

What's the deal?

I've had a similar problem in the past where the engine felt like it was going to sputter out. The dealer was able to duplicate the problem, but didn't know how to fix it. I've had a lot of OTHER problems with this car too...

My 4 yr/50,000 mile warranty is over so I can't afford to take it in constantly.
