Loaner

I brought my car in for service today. The loaner they presented me with is a 2003 C240 auto, C1, C2, C4(old style) with 'premium sound' (not Bose?), leather and 1073 miles. A few observations:

1) I don't know why you guys all whine about a lack of power. It's not overwhelming, but it still runs smoothly and pulls well up to it's limitations.
(this is not a race car...this is not a race car...this is not a race car)

2) The leather in my coupe is nicer. This is a 2003 sedan and unlike my coupe, the leather is perforated all the way to the top of the seat. Bolsters are flatter and the seats dont feel as firm.

3) The sound system (only tried FM) isn't terrible, but my coupe has more punch in the lows and better definition in the high end.

Finally...the rear seat headrest switch isn't working, but hey...it's a loaner. I'll let them know when I bring it back.

Hey Rick - did you take it to Catena? Mine is Contemporary Motorcars in Little Silver, but Edison would be closer. Don't they have a shop on Rt. 22 as well? What else is there, Morristown and Manhattan...not too crazy about either option, although I work in Livingston.

I was given a C240 as a loaner and I really liked it. If I was getting another sedan it would most likely be the C240.

Did you start the engine when you tried it though? It uses some sort of vacuum system and hence it won't work unless the engine is running.

Damn! You beat me to it

The ONLY "problem" I have with the power from my C240/auto is from a dead stop to about 20 MPH. I think that if the car didn't have a computer controlling acceleration and shifting, in other words a direct connection between the throttle pedal and injection system, the car would be faster from a dead stop. I think MB has designed it so as to not stress the engine or transmission from lead-footers so as to prolong the life of the components.

Jim, I've got a C240 6-spd, so it's a bit more lively from a start than the auto. I think it might be more a matter of limited torque at the low end, and the "normal" sapping of power by an automatic. My '99 Passat (5-spd) was worse, especially noticeable when coming out of a slow turn in 2nd gear.

I reported the problem with the rear seat headrests...they knew about it. Apparently someone had been playing with the switch and broke it.
Did they change 'alabaster' or add a new 'white' for 2003? This loaner looked brighter than the coupe I parked it next to.

Nope, no new white color. It's still alabaster. They probably need to wash the coupe.
