short shifter
Is there a short shifter available for the c240 / w203? Is so, where can i get one and how much does it sell for?
One of my friends recommended just cutting the 'shaft' of the shifter. Any ideas?
Thanks.

don't think there is anything available yet. you could cut the stock one but don't know how much better it will be. the coupe has a shorter one, yet im unsure if you can swap it into you sedan. ask brabuscclass; he was looking for one some time ago.

If you just cut the shaft you'll increase the effort required to shift and as a result may not pop your gears in all the way. Not a good choice IMHO.
Go to UUCMotorwerks.com and they have many articles on short shifters and the mods pros/cons.

If you cut off the top of the shaft, you probably won't get the knob back on right. The top of the shaft is shaped to accept the knob and keep it from spinning around. It also probably won't lock on right. Not a good idea.

The C7 shifter rod is .5 inch shorter than the standard one. The rest is the same. Based on this, I think you may have some luck if you find a way to cut out the middle part of the rod (.5 to 1 inch) and re-weld the rod back together. I've done this on a couple of old cars I had years ago.

Out Of Control!!
Just got off the phone with Rob of UUC. He hasn't had much time to devote to the ccoupe short shift kit project, so it's not done yet. He wants to see my car before they can finalize anything, so I'll be heading over there after Thanksgiving, and will give another update then. Felix, he said that what he's thinking of should be able to work on the c240 as well, as he's focusing his attention to the link between the shifter rod and the tranny, not the rod itself.
They also will hopefully develop some knobs at some point; I'll post results as I get 'em, so hang tight.
