a quarter mile at a time
why do I get the sinking feeling it's going to be like $5,000 for this shifter?

Everyone want the good news? According to my dealer, and this is what he told me, the list on the shifter is $180.00 and he's going to fax me over the p/n. I also ordered one while I was on the phone and I'll have it tomorrow just to see if it's the right one. I'll have my techs see if it will fit on our cars. I'll also post the p/n as well.

And the part numbers I got.

209 267 02 88
203 267 25 88
203 267 22 88
203 267 24 11 9E38
203 267 18 11 9E38
Just checked these on a UK Mercedes Parts site (mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk) and have the following prices in GBP (multiply by 2 for US Dollar ). Prices don't look too bad!

A209 267 02 88 - PART NOT FOUND
A203 267 25 88 - Covering £2.54
A203 267 22 88 - Slotted Gate £69.30
A203 267 24 11 9E38 - Handle £108.92
A203 267 18 11 9E38 - PART NOT FOUND

These prices include a 10% discount but exclude UK Tax at 17.5%

If you search for any parts on this website you need to include the full part number without ANY spaces and with the A or B prefix, e.g. 203 267 25 88 would be entered A2032672588. B part no's are accessory parts and usually start with a 6.

Hope this helps...

Please let us know how you get on, from the listing posted above and the check I did on the part no's it looks as though the Handle and the Gear gate are separate parts. $180 sounds very reasonable

It looks good in the 63...just have a hard time believing it's got a chance in our C-class interior. I'm still not sold on it :\.
