Nav unit

My cousin offered to clean the lens of the cd player in the head unit for me since it was really dirty. well know the cd part of the nav unit does not work and i have no idea how to put it back together correctly because he did it all so i am wondering what should i do i just got the unit and i have a warranty so should i just sent it back and put back in the old stereo or i could live without the nav which i really don’t want to do or i could maybe find either a nav unit with a broken lcd or something besides the cd drive part and put it in to my unit. i assume the cd part of the nav units are all the same it is the processor board that i would have to unscrew and screw in to the the new cd drive. if anyone has any suggestions i would love to hear them. or if anyone has a broken nav unit i would love to talk to you. i did read some where that their is a part numbers for the three main sections of the nav unit just wondering if that was true. Thanks

Let me get this straight, the lens for the CD player was dirty so you guys decide that you'll just take the entire nav unit apart?

Have you ever heard of a cleaning CD? If there are any signs that you opened the unit whoever is warrantying it is going to know, and they aren't going to help you.

Gee, your "cousin" took it apart and left the scene of the crime before he could put it back together?

You can get a new NAV/CD drive for your COMAND unit and install fairly easily. The drive has the gyro settings for the type of car, so you would want one from a C class for it to be precise. There should be 2 or 3 torx screws that hold the drive on and two ribbon cables on the front of the drive that are very short.

Good luck fixing and give your cousin a kick in the *** for me.

well he didn’t really offer to do it he kind of just did it and didn’t wait for me to get home. i have already done one so i was going to do it with his help when i got home from my friends house. the nav unit was on the table and i guess he saw it and decided he could do it without my help. and the cleaning cd did not work. well if anyone has a cd drive please contact me! i have a friend in Germany that last week saw the top part of a 2.0 command on ebay for about $100US so if any one happens to find one please please contact me and yes i did get my revenge.
