Well I just may be an Ol' Fuddy Duddy, but my favorite thing about my car is the hood ornament. In fact, I've heard several people say the same thing. I think the sport grill looks good on coupes, but not necessarily on a sedan. But, then again, I may just be in poor lame taste. Later

to each their own RJamesC240,

I actually saw a very nicely done C sedan with the raised star and looked good to me too.

I just prefer the new 2003 look, like the 03 CLK

JoReL, I actually had black electrical tape over all the vertical and horizontal "fins" of the the grille. Only the outside frame and star were left chrome. I liked it, but wife didn't. I removed the tape from all the horizontal pieces, but left that tape on the small vertical pieces above and below the star. It's sort of a half-assed job. I'll go back and do a better job one day

Hey Jim,

do you have any pics of your grille when you had tape over all the vertical and horizontal "fins". I wonder what that would look like.

hey

check ebay or ask Jerry at formymercedes.com. he alwasy has pretty good prices. They average anywhere between $130 - $200, depending on where you buy them. There is also the "Real Deal" CL stlye grill from a company called MH-DEZENT in Germany, but that grill costs $600+ and need to have the bottom part painted to match the car and IMO isnt really worth it.

P.S. Check your P.M. in the "User CP" I sent you a message

if you wanna do the CL hood conversion grill, it's really expensive, since you're getting a new hood. talk to ben @ evosport they have that conversion.

Evosport also sell the M-H Dezent style grille, 'cept it is sold under the name "Expression", who also happens to make the M-H Dezent grille
This brings up the question... will the new '03 CLK grille, which looks exactly like the M-H Dezent grille for the C-class, fit on our C-class sedans? It looks like it would.

Nice call. I will try and see if it fits when im at the dealership on monday. I bet they still cost a few hundred from MB, though, but i definatly like the bigger star look better and if it does fit will probally buy it. So if anyone wants my old "cl style" grill, make me an offer.

That is the same style, but may not be the same brand/quality. There are quite a few different ones out there and I'm not sure how much different the quality is between them, but I have heard several negative comments from people who purchased those cheap ones on ebay.

Thats the one I bought off eBay...its a Schaetz (sp?) its made in Germany so the quality is pretty good, thats about what I paid before shipping. I think 120 or so is OK for a Schaetz....

Star Grille

There are several other options out there. Do a search in the forum and see if you can find other pics of installed grilles (there are ones with a smaller star - the one you have in the attached pic of the black car; and others with big stars and less slats - which tend to be a little more money)

Here's a pic of the larger star grille:

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=52867

Good luck finding the right grille:p

Are you sure that's Schaetz? It doesn't list a brand anywhere in the auction and when I emailed that seller about the grill, I got no response. When I've asked other ebay sellers about the brand of grills they're selling that look exactly like that one, they always say they're generic, no name brand grills.

i didn't mean that one exactly...I meant the one I bid on happened to be made by Schaetz. I didn't even ask before hand. I hadn't heard of the brand before I got the grille.

CL grille for the C class

IM new to this forum and here is my first question:

Anybody knows how can the CL grille be adapted to fit the C class??? ( the grille with the BIG star, the ones on the 230 )

I have a grille with the star already but it is a different version than the one on the 230 and CL. The star is smaller and the actual grill part it is not the same.

Anybody knows????
