Basically black is deep black, no metallic to it.
Obsidian black is not as dark (for black) and it has metallic shine that shows great under the sun.

I like Obsidian Black better, a little easier to keep and not swirl, just a little

Obsidian black isn't as dark as plain black, it's got some silver-y specks in it that sparkles when clean and under the sun. It's definietely nicer than regular black, but it's up to you to decide if it's worth the extra money.

Obsidian is Metalic

The cost should be around $700 or a bit less - I can't recall off the top of my head.

My 99 C Class is Obsidian Black and a guy in works similar age C Class in standard flat Black and the difference in the 2 cars is unbeleivable.
His car looks old and dull where as mine has the clean look freshly polished sparkle to it.

I'd save the money and get the black opal. If you want the metallic paint then get silver for your car. Otherwise it ends up not looking pure black, which I don't like.

Obsidian is easier to maintain too. It shows less scratches, swirls, and dust. Black is a pain to maintain! Hey, that rhymed!

Black Opal is actually a very dark green-blue, "tealish" color. I had seen it on a couple of CLK's and liked it. I briefly considered it for my C240, but I then saw it on some sedans and wasnt' as crazy about it. Besides, in addition to the metallic charge, it's a special order color for the C's -- another $1150 or so.

Obsidian is a beautiful colour....my choice was for Black.....if u want the blackest black go with 040...from all the examples I have seen....Black has a better finish....smooth and mirror like...sometimes metallic finishes are slightly orange peel like
Opal is also stunning
IMO 040 is the only NON metallic to go for

It definitely is dark and has blue in it, but not really green. And it is far from being teal. It is a very nice color, even on the C. A Black Opal C32 I have seen is one of the best looking ones ever, in my opinion. Calling it tealish makes it sound bad, I don't think it looks like that at all.
