I prefer the parking brake on the floor. Something I only use 2 or 3 times a day should not be in the center console taking up space.

BTW whoever said the Jag has the hand brake on the lefthand floor, I'd love to see a picture. I remember driving my Mom's V12 '89 VP and not being able to find the parking brake at all in the car for my driver's test...

The couple times I have forgotten to disengage it I have been reversing and guess never noticed the screen, or even a beep... weird... I'll try it when I leave work tonight.

Just my 2 cents: when I was in Kansas, I never ever used the parking brake, except once in the road test
. When I moved to SF bay area, it eventually became a habit to always use the parking brake.

Saab's new 9-3 sport sedan has a cool solution to an uncluttered center console while maintaining a handbrake in the normal spot:
