Yep, a lot of the messages only pop up when the car is put in motion, like the "door open", "brake on", etc. I love that -- who needs these things going off when you're just sitting there?

I prefer the parking brake on the floor. Something I only use 2 or 3 times a day should not be in the center console taking up space.
The couple times I have forgotten to disengage it I have been reversing and guess never noticed the screen, or even a beep... weird... I'll try it when I leave work tonight.

BTW whoever said the Jag has the hand brake on the lefthand floor, I'd love to see a picture. I remember driving my Mom's V12 '89 VP and not being able to find the parking brake at all in the car for my driver's test...

My Pontiacs both had the handbrake on the left side next the seat. Was kind of a pain in the ***, because it was in your way trying to exit the car. Doing donuts, it worked great

Just my 2 cents: when I was in Kansas, I never ever used the parking brake, except once in the road test . When I moved to SF bay area, it eventually became a habit to always use the parking brake.

i'll get the pic up as soon as i find one, or get my roll from the auto show from back in october developed (yeah, i know, almost 2 months and still sitting there). but it was just something i noticed in the XKR when getting in (i so wish i had that car)

kind of a nifty place to put it, although somewhat odd.

Saab's new 9-3 sport sedan has a cool solution to an uncluttered center console while maintaining a handbrake in the normal spot:

http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/models/2003/ci.php3?ph=1

(if you cant see it, it's integrated into the side of the center console, so it blends in when the parking brake is not engaged)
