CD Changer help!
Some time ago, my CD Changer slowly stopped working.
Somedays it would scan the CD's when you fired up the car,
you'd be listening to one, then maybe stop the engine, and then it would say "NO CD CHANGER".
So, gradually it just quit working, didn't scan the disks anymore.
The last time it did the disk scan was maybe a year ago, and that was like 3 months from the time before that...wierd.
So, I bought another changer.
Put it in, didn't work.
Replaced the optical cable with the one under the plastic cover in the rear,
also didn't work.
Took both CD changers to a friend's house who has 2002 C230 and tested them, and they BOTH worked!
So the changers are tested OK.
So the only things I have on the optical D2B loop are the
HU and the Changer.
So, I figured it must be a problem with the D2B master, ie the
Audio 10.
So yesterday, I replaced the Audio 10 with the original cassette HU, and
SAME result.
Anyone have any idea's?
Could the settings in the ECU gotten changed somehow?
But that wouldn't explain the gradual failure.
Could it still be the optical cable?
I'd really like to get it working, and then maybe out in a Dice unit, or one of the D2B boxes that allow you to run your IPOD and use the switches on the steering wheel.

My first thought is the gradual way it went out points toward dirty fiber optic cables or emitter or receiver in the devices. Usually the cable housing keeps the interface clean, but you might have one of the holders canted, allowing dust to enter. It can also be a case of mounting the cables on too tight a radius. This causes the fibers which are actually glass, to break inside the support tube one by one. This attenuates the light little by little until there is not enough signal to work.
You can clean the cable ends by gently wiping with isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip. If you shine a light down the cable, it should look bright at the other end. I any of the individual fibers is dark, it indicates the fiber is broken.

I have the same problem in a friends car, I installed him my comand for a test drive and his cd-changer don't work with the comand now!
It shows reading changer, and than, no cd changer!
I remember reading some time ago that migth be needed to do a reset to the cd changer, how I don't know!
I already disconnected the power an turned again but same results!
