This is pretty OT, but still pertains to the w203 forum... ![Stick Out Tongue](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
I don't know if you guys remember this thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...light=sandbags
The short is that the awesomely smart OP of that thread said that putting sandbags in the trunk would give you a drop and be the "poor man's lowering springs". Well, I didn't want to risk getting sand all over my trunk and I wanted something that wasn't as messy as sand if the bag was compromised.
So, I bought SALT! Yes, salt. It was slightly more expensive than sand, but a 40lb bag only set me back $5.09 at Home Depot. Since it's slightly more expensive than sandbags, I'll call it the "middle-class man's lowering springs".
Let's try it on my car:
Here's the bag next to the rear tires...

In the trunk:

The drop before:
![](http://nulud.com/images/salt3.jpg)
Please take note that my tires say "ExtraLoad", that means that the PS2's were meant to have the extra load like sand and salt placed on it to give a cheap lowering effect
(not really).
The drop after:

Oh that's right! I already have PSS9's! No difference!![Stick Out Tongue](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
So, the moral of the story, do it right and don't listen to many of the idiots on the boards.![action](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/action1.gif)
For those of you that still won't listen, this is for you:
![](http://nulud.com/images/salte.jpg)
P.S. yes, the car is filthy, that's actually why I bought the salt, so that I can wash it tomorrow...

wow! $5.09 at Home Depot! You should change your name to "The_Rich_nlpamg"! I'm disappointed the first thread was closed. The laughs just kept on coming. haha

Should have used shot pellets (available from gun shops in your area.) Made out of lead, it's significantly heavier, takes up less trunk room, and can be made to fit anywhere (as in around the spare tire.) Sheesh, if you're gonna do the poor man's drop, do it with lead!

yup, I use an in-line water softener so that my car doesn't get any hard water stains and water spots. the salt is for the softener.

I actually wish these damn things came in bags that were less than 40lbs... I only needed 2lbs of this stuff, but had no choice!

Well, I tried to put 4 bags of rice (200 lbs) and 10 gallon of water in my trunk to test my rear suspension for rubbing! my rear was so high that my tires barely went behind the fender.
And that is not the rich way(cheap way actually) b/c the test drive is for to go shopping, and also the rice is to be eaten in no time.![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
Next time I'll give you guys a ride in my trunk. Let's see what happen. Trunk very roomy and clean, queen size, fit 2 persons, pillow and blanket available.

I've pulled some pretty heavy loads in my Coupe...
the wheels drop nicely tucked. But it takes more than a couple bags...
yeh, dead bodies work well, but you gotta wrap 'em in plastic, and the smell gets, well, you know.
