ADDING a resonator?
#26
Well, for some odd reason the UPS guy put it in my mailbox.
I didn't think they were allowed to do that.
I was searching all over the property, and the neighbors houses, as it showed as delivered via tracking.
Nice piece. Very nice. As compared to the crap they were trying to sell me at the muffler shop. While only 4" across it' s a little bigger than I imagined.
Tomorrow!

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
2" diameter.
Inside getting smaller is a just a photographic effect.
The point being, it's straight thru, and all stainless!
For less than 60 bucks.
We'll see what happens tomorrow.
I'll get it installed and post a clip.

Damn damn damn!
It's too big by about 1/2" .
I'd only have 1/2" clearance between it and the driveshaft.
Sheeeit.
And the guy said, when it heated up, it would get tighter.
So I need something NO wider than 3.5".
Open to suggestions.

i still have my C32 resonator. can be yours for $50 but you gotta come pick it up...LOL.
btw, where are you trying to place that thing? the C32 resonator is much bigger than that thing and it doesn't have a problem clearing the driveshaft right under the middle of the car where the heat shields are.

That’s too bad your new resonator didn’t fit properly. It’s probably another Coupe peculiarity.
If you go the TruTaing or FrankW route, it will probably look sorta like this:
With its four stock catalytic converters, this is my no-fart M112 setup:

Yes you have a lot more room than I do in that area.
Sometime it's hard to believe the coupe is still considered the same chassis!
Also, since my I had the header installed, the normal place the resonator would be, ahead of the cat, isn't likely to fit, as the header piece comes back close to the cat and I have bolt on flanges attached and thats not gonna change.
There is 1.5" of clearance from the pipe to the driveshaft.
Yes, that leaves .5" but the guy said
a. you need to allow some room for it to "grow" do to heat expansion, and
b. when you hit a bump it would bang against the driveshaft.
He seemed to feel an extra 1/4" of clearance might make the difference.
I wondered if couldn't bang the thing up a little to make some clearance, he he.

Sort of O/T....has anyone ever tried leaving the stock C320 rear muffler, and instead of a full resonator deletion, just getting a nice aftermarket one like the one above? Would this be quieter than going with stock resonator and aftermarket miuffler??
I'd like to hear my exhaust just a bit (stock is totally silent...), but I don't want to increase the resonance, or drone; this is particularly important in wagons, as the rear compartment acts like a big speaker box and transmits a lot of sound...

The AFTER VIDEO
So as promised, the AFTER VIDEO!!!!
Went to another muffler shop who said, no problem, and got it
swedged in there very nicely up close to the diff, which is where the hanger is. So far no bouncing into the driveshaft, though it's a close fit.
It's hard to hear much difference in the 2 video's but if you listen closely as it hits 4K rpm (the max when you're standing still) it's much better.
So since I can't get to the higher rpm's standing still, it's hard to hear in the video, also my camera doesn't have the best audio.
Mostly under load was when I'd get the farting noise,
I can definitely here the difference inside the car. Much quieter, thankfully.
Now I can hear the whistling around my newly replaced door!
I hate body shops.

Deleting the stock resonator doesn't do much at all.
I can say that since my car never had one!
And it was still very quiet.
But I would think with a station wagon you might have a little more room to work with, without increasing noise too much.
I think one of the best exhausts I've heard around here was a guy who put like 2 long hipo mufflers in series, like magnaflows or something, I forget. Nice deep tone....
and it didn't cost him too much.
You'd have to search for that one!

Is that for post Cinco De Mayo syndrome?
All my buddy's are out and about, tried to get me to go.
I stayed home, and made a video of my exhaust.
Giving my liver a rest! They aren't selling spare anywhere last I checked.

I just went for a drive up and down Hwy 9 between Felton and Santa Cruz...waiting for gaps in traffic.
The resonator and new sway bar both make such an improvement.
It's much quieter when I get on the gas, and overall much quieter inside, but still has a nice sound. The thicker rear bar just makes the car more balanced, though I wonder if I couldn't go even a little thicker...
the coupe isn't the same as the sedan, and all the suspension was designed for the sedan, and then put on it's basturd child the CL203 without any thought as to suitability.
