help! front head restraints

i purchased an 07' c230 ss and the driver and passenger head restraints were activated and are sticking out.. incredibly discomforting. i know you use the L shaped tool from the toolkit and insert it in ( preferably from the backseat into the top of the headrest and into a hole ) .. unfortunately this has proven to be incredibly difficult and i really want to avoid the trip to the dealer and the service costs as well.

id appreciate it if anyone has a visual or any comments that would help me reset the head restraints..

thanks

Hes talking about the active front head restraints which the 2007s came with (not sure about 2006?). They're spring loaded and during a collision they spring forward to help prevent whip-lash.

The dealer shouldn't have to fix it.
It's supposed to be reset with the tool but apparently he's having a problem with it.

If worst comes to worst you need to just go to the dealer.

if they're popped out you should be able to push them back in to set them back in place.

2) id really like to avoid the trip to the dealer and the maintenance cost as well
( i called and its like a 60 $ charge for something i could do myself and takes a couple of hours for them to do?!? )

Shouldn't something like that be covered under warranty?

no not in this case. regardless, the money is the labor/maintenance fee. (pretty ridiculous, hence why im avoiding taking it to the dealer)

Hey Guys, Wait, I may have the solution

If you guys can wait another few days, perhaps until after Christmas, I may have the solution for you. I've take some photos of my car to make my explanation clearer and since I can't attach it here. I'm trying to put them up in Flickr or something like that so that all of you can access it whilst reading my explanation.

Actually, the solution is simple enough, so I hope I'm not barking up the wrong tree.

Duhh!!! Didn't notice the dates.

How do I attach photos from my hard disk. "inserting image" selection asks for a URL. Do I type the path to my harddisk in place?

Uh, I think you're in the wrong section. That's not a W203.

Sorry if I'm wrong

e1000
Yes, I know its not a C230 or a W203. I have a 230E and an E280 both 124s and they are both similar, except that the E280's head restraints are electronically controlled, whilst the 230E's are manual. I just thought that they would also be similar for other models as well. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Billbugger, hehehehe, yes, I was going to write something last night, but it was already very late and I didn't feel like it. Still haven't got around to doing it yet. Maybe later tonight or sometime tomorrow. Thanks for your positive comments.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

You get an "A" for effort.

The OP was asking about the pre-safe headrests on the 2006+ W203. These are different from the headrests found in cars up until 2005. Also in the W203, there is no button to release the headrests in any year. In models up to 2005, you can just pull up to have the headrests release. In the 2006+ models, you have to unscrew 2 torx screws at the bottom of the seat back, remove the seat back to undo a metal clip to get the headrests off. There may be some differences to this if you do or do not have full power seats.

This all still dosen't address the pre-safe question.

duhhh

OK e1000. I stand corrected. Thanks for the education. Next time I get a chance to look at the 2006 models, I'll be sure to ask.

Brian, looks like I AM barking up the wrong tree, so I won't be doing any writing on this subject anymore.

Merry Christmas.
