Glyn, your CLK is probably ok, but I would still check your engine serial number. It affects all M272 Engines Up to Serial No. 2729..30 759427. Let me know if your engine is outside that number.

magnets
The truck does drive better after bank 1 intake cam magnet replaced.
Did anybody changed driver's side magnets on ML? It looks like theres no way to get to them w/o removing PS res. and the other part (metal, don't know the name)
Is there any recall on 2008 ML's? I saw a bulletin Safety Recall #2008-120011" for model 2008 ML's. It says if your VIN# is NOT in the list, replace power steering
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/do...8V682-8765.pdf
I called up the dealer, they said my VIN is not under the recall. Shall I check with NHTSA?
Thank you

The repair time is 0.4 hours to check and 5.3 hours to check and replace the power steering rack. The
power steering rack replacement rate is approximately 100%.
If they checked your vin then you are not one of the 577 so you are fine.

Thanx
No, no recall for power steering. MB headquarters said there's a campaign or recall to change O2 sensors if defective. I bought two magnets for driver's side and most probably will have them changed, even though the ride improved, still not the same as a few months ago

Thanx a mil. All magnets changed. Much more power now. No hesitation on acceleration any more. The only thing that bothers me is the jolt i get once in a while when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Took it in for transmission service a year ago, it didnt solve it. Thanks again for magnets info, really helped

P0015 with no symptoms and no CEL
Hello All,
My car (06 W211 350) never had any symptoms of poor idling, drivability, stalling, and no CEL indicating any camshaft issues. However, while doing routine inspections with my DAS diagnosis system, I frequently see the error code P0015 being registered.
Even in the presence of the error code, the DAS troubleshooting section does not suggest any repair action (please see below)
Should I trust DAS or proactively replace the magnets before the worse happens?
Thank you...

The P0015 code popped up twice on me (on my harbor freight scanner) since this past November. The magnet cost me $32 from the dealer and took about 20 minutes to replace. It popped up on me Wednesday morning and I cleared it with the scanner an hour later...lets hope for the best.
thanks again!

update: unplugged camshaft sensors, sprayed the connectors with CRC electronics cleaner (without removing the sensor itself), let them dry up and reconnected. Results: all those nasty jolts, when shifting gone! At least for now, see how it is tomorrow.

Hey Guys,
First off this thread is awesome. Thanks to Glyn, John and all contributors. I actually have the M273 Engine and got the P0022 code. Anyone try this on the M273 Engine? My mechanic wants $400 to replace the magnet because he said he has to remove PS pump and more. Before I tried I wanted to see if anyone had given it a go on this engine , which is very similar, but bigger(meaning less space). Thanks in advance.

I have the same P0015 code on my W203. I never saw a CEL light like I did for the P0012. I too found the code while scanning with DAS. I bought 3 more magnets, and will replace all of them and rid myself of this issue once and for all, as I have been recommending to others.
If it was my car, I would replace them, but it is entirely up to you. But, I can say that when I replaced the one for the P0012, I noticed improved drivability. I am still chasing a persistent hesitation issue, I suspect may be that pesky magnet. I am going to replace the other 3 over the Xmas break and will report back here if it fixes the problem.

Well I on the way in to work I got the dreaded P0012 CEL. I cleaned them out a few weeks ago and all was fine, but now it is back. It looks like I will be needing to replace the magnets and/or sensors very soon =(

Is there any connection between camshaft sensors and jerky shifting?
When I sprayed sensor's connectors with el.cleaner, that nasty shifting (feels like somebody kicked you) is almost gone. May be that problem has nothing to do with transmission, but with sensors?

Need some help! After reading this thread about a dozen times from beginning to end, I ended up replacing the magents on Bank 1 due to getting the dreaded p0012 code. The symptoms prior to to replacing the magnets was terribly rough idle and rough acceleration. At one point on the highway doing 55, the check engine light actually started flashing for a few seconds.
Well, after replacing both passenger side magnets, I start the car and still get a somewhat rough idle but acceleration seems OK. Go to Advance Auto to have them scan again and get p0012 again with notes of cylinder 1 & 4 miss firing. Curious how #4 cylinder miss fires but only get the code that relates to cyl's 1,2 &3???
The rough idle is better than it was but is still very anoying. Could I also need to replace the sensors? Oh, and I did not have them reset the codes, just scan. Could this be a part of the issue?
Any here we are at the beginning of a holiday weekend where no parts will be available.

OK: I hope John looks in on this one.
First.
- Check that the air cleaner is clipped down hard over the MAF - no air leak
- Check plugs & coils on all cylinders showing misfires
- Cancel all codes with a scanner & see what comes back
- Clean the MAF with CRC MAF cleaner
Benz WIS/Star specifically says don't replace the sensors - only the magnets. Maybe you are an unlucky one that has a sensor failure as well.
Do the other stuff first.

Thanks John. I said to Steve in reply to his PM that you know this engine better than I do. Now that I have one I'll get up to speed.
I can't fathom a misfire/cam timing relationship.

Thanks guys! I went to a different auto parts store to have them clear the codes but they said that store policy would not allow them to do that. The print out on the codes P300, P301 & P304 all show possible causes being dirty fuel injection (put in a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner to see if that helps. So far no), spark plug foul (will pull #1 plug and see what I can find) and vacuum leak (will check air cleaner and all hoses).
If it helps any, when I first started he car this morning, it idled fine for a while and then started the roughness. Once out in the street it started missing badly. Each time restarted after about 5-6 short trips, the rough idle was present.
I appreciate the help!
