Rear hatch struts on Coupe?

Has anyone done anything other than suck it up and buy them at the dealership? My hatch struts are starting to give up the ghost (insert Viagra/underwire bra/other bad joke here) and wanted to see if there were an alternative to that.

Gracias.

Yup, mine are starting to go too....they still support the hatch but I have to push up, or I'll bang my head if I'm not paying attention.
Not bad enough yet for me to spend money....but if it's not toooo expensive.
Did you figure out the PN's yet?

ok, thanks for all the help.

I'll get part #s, prices from my local dealer, then check with rbrenton to see what he can do. Like C230SC, I'm getting a little tired of doing a header on my hatch.

Same thing here.
The springs have become tired.
Gas struts used in industry are around $20-$30. (www.mcmastercarr.com)
Automotive replacments should be readily available online somewhere. I just have too much other stuff to fix to go searching...

OK, so I looked it up on the EPC

It has 2 part #'s.
A2039800164 "Body hardware - Liftgate - Lift cylinder
Lift cylinder, c230 coupe 2002 - 2005" "PNEUMATIC SP "
$37.83 - "interstop" ?
A2039800264- "Spring" $157.25 - Liftomat

Prices are from a dealer.

So are they the same part, and just 2 very different prices?
Hmmmm.....
they are both listed as part "100" but have 2 pn's ?

That's odd! Thanks for posting.

I'll check at the dealer after my trip next week. Flying into WA state, picking up the rental (probably a Pontiac ), then driving into Alberta, doing the mtns/parks, then spending the remaining long weekend in Seattle, getting drunk and eating salmon.

I'll add it to my list of things to do then, which will also include finally installing the gauges on the a pillar.

"Liftgate" may be the station wagon's rear door. You want the Coupe Lift Cylinder, $36.49 here:

SUCCESS

Looks like oempartsdirect.com has aftermarket (Stabilus) for $28 (S2SG314030) and $35 (S2SG126004) for the premium model!

Search Amazon.com using S2SG126004 and it looks like the same item branded as Sachs go for $25 a piece shipped from Amazon.com.
