How to clean/clear/fix BAS warning message

Okay before anyone says it, I've already searched through the forum and have not been able to find the answer. If you know of the specific thread that answers this then my apologies and please point me in the right direction.

I have been getting the annoying BAS warning that seems to be oh so common with these cars. Other than taking it to the stealership and having them rape me on diagnosing the problem and still not being able to fix it.

Is there a way for me to fix this myself? What parts do I need to order, where can I find the diagram on where these parts or located to do the job myself? I've read of people cleaning contacts, where are these contacts?

Is there a way to manually clear the message so it doesn't come back for at least a week or so?

I have new pads installed and my braking is fine. This problem has been on the car for 3 months now. Thank you!

Replace your brake assist sensor. It's a mechanical switch connected directly to the brake pedal. Remove the lower kick panel, take out the sound insulation foam block, and you'll see a harness connected to a sensor on the brake pedal actuator.

Is your variable assist braking still working?

Honestly, I don't know if my brake assist is working. What's it feel like? I mean the car seems to brake like normal when I step on it but what's the assist supposed to do? Fluid level is fine. Thanks you all!

Look in the manual for a full description. Brake assist actuates the calipers in concert with your foot and uses wome sort of servo to add some pressure to your breaking effort. I had the same problem. Took 15 min. to replace that switch, and voila, malfunction gone and brake assist back on!

W/o that switch, Brake assist will not work w/o that switch. Please note that an AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts scanner is only a basic scanner and not a replacement for CarSoft or STAR.

Rev 2 Liv,

Where did you purchase your replacement brake assist sensor? Do you remember cost? Looks easy enough to replace than paying the dealer $300+ to look at it.

Is that it?

I think I found it online for $133. Sound about right?

I forgot where, but it was definitely less than $30. Not a very expensive part.
